Hi Guys, I'm just about to do up the bolts on the rear of my car but I'm not to sure if they are long enough.
When tourqed up how many if any threads need to stick out of the nut? I've looked in the iva manual but I can't find an answer.

Also if the bolts I've got arn't long enough, is it ok to cut some 100mm long ones down?

cheers

Same as above really 2 to 3 threads is fine. :) :)
The only problem with cutting a bolt down is losing the bzp protection. Touching the end of the bolt up with some zinc rich paint or spray would help to stop the orange blight:eek:
It's worth buying good quality stuff to. Look for paint with a high zinc content (normally the more silver it looks the less zinc it contains).
I guess at the end of the day most of the bolts will be covered in nut covers anyway.;)

Once you are happy with them all torqued up and not coming out again put a white mark with paint on the nut as a "creep mark " ,serve's two purposes.

1 you can see if its moved and 2 IVA man can see it too.

Cheers fly, I learnt that from the mark Evans westfield DVD.
I'm going to buy some more bolts as I only had 1 thread sticking out when tourqued up.

That Robin Hood silencer won't pass old SVA let alone the stricter IVA
I had to use a Db killer to pass then on the road it was actually painful
Now have a Paul Gooderham special
