Classic Saloon

I'm thinking of getting a classic saloon that I can use to take the family to classic car shows.

I thought about a Rolls Royce Shadow (too ostentatious) or an Allegro (too austin-tatious). I've narrowed it down to a Cortina or a Dolomite, can you think of anything else?

It needs to be a 4 door and a cripple frinendly automatic.

Stumped for choice if has to be orthopeadic(auto) otherwise my XR4i would be ideal as for some odd reason it's classed as a classic car for insurance so only £160 a year fully comp for a loon like me....:D

Depends how far back you want to go, if I were in the market for a classic would be either a Rover SD1 or Triumph 2000. Of course I woudn't say no to a Stag.:D

Hmmm, the Jag and the SD1 are a bit big, triumph 2000 is a good shout though - my dad had one o' them!

I have a mint Audi 90 Quattro 4 door if you are interested but it's not automatic.

Ford Classic.. My first real car..1970.

Had a Reliant Regal side valve before that.
Driving it on a bike licence..Them were the days.

How about a Rover P5 or if you want something a bit more modern, the P6. The smaller automatics in the P6 drive very nicely and if you want some serious fun go for the 3500 :)

Nice looking motor Chris. :cool:

In spite of being an avid all things Triumph fan. The Dolly Was not one of my favorites.

Very prone to head gasket failure :eek: .
Bit like the Rover K series engine. :D :D

A long way to go and a tad overpriced being as it is not road tax exempt (1973 or older ).

For me its the Triumph 2000/2500TC/2500PI all done in saloon or estate with an auto option.

Cant beat the sound of that straight six engine

I was working in the parts counter at Mumfords when the 2000's Sprints and SD1's were new, seem to remember a few with overheating probs with some of the Triumph range. Happy days though, wondering when Red Robbo would pull the factories on strike, thereby delaying parts and new vehical delivery. Having a laugh when the "new" cars were bought in from the compound and having to drain a gallon or two of water from the inside:eek: , paint finishes blooming, quality control was not on the top of the list for BL back then. Having said that I still get misty eyed when I see an SD1 or any other BL offering from that era.

HI, i have a tr7v8 convertable in my bottom garage and a mk2 escort with cossie turbo sat in my workshop/garage oh yea theres a mini in there with my roadster chassis in between
it doesnt matter how big i build my garage i still run out of room for cars! got another 5 on drive including my sierra donor
i think im turning in to my dad you cant see the floor or roof in his garage lol

My only classic was a 1974 Mk1 Mexico Escort with 1760 x flow, sold in1983 saw it again at a transport day at Sandringham, Norfolk 1997. Looked just like the day i sold it, all std except the engine.
