Well had my SVA this morning at Gillingham.

Met Neil my examiner, Top bloke. Had to say that coz he frequents the build forums...LOL
Took the time to explain things to me, and answer all my inane questions.
I felt he did everything he could to help me pass.
If you are reading this Neil.. Thanks mate:D

Had a stupid fail though..
Trying to save money I didn't replace my front discs.
They looked OK, but it turned out they were warped !!

The rest was OK apart from a couple of wires I forgot to cover.
AND......For future reference to anyone going for their test.
I was quite confident my sports steering wheel would pass OK
It had good padding and good radiuses.
But he said a non standard Sierra steering wheel will not pass, because it is not type approved.

Anyway, Got a retest this Wednesday afternoon.
So bought a new set of discs on the way home.
Will fit them tomorrow, and fit the standard Sierra steering wheel.

Thanks for all the support guys, fingers crossed again for Wednesday

That's pretty good mate, the steering wheel thing varies from station to station some have passed with aftermarket wheels and some haven't. The manuals says that it "should be type approved or have the same characteristics as a type approved wheel"

Testers discretion = usual VOSA fudge!

Cheers

Chris:)

Well done on your near pass, it certainly reflects a good deal of effort on your part.

Not too much to do for Wednesday.

Well done David :)

Thanks Guys.

Feel annoyed with myself for such a stupid fail.
The discs were on the list to be replaced.
But when money ran a bit short I decided not to bother.

As for the steering wheel as Chris says, it doe's seem to vary from centre
to centre. There are people on locost builders that are saying the same thing.
My wheel had a collapsible boss, but hey ho....I ain't bothered about changing the wheel if it gives me a pass.
And as the examiner said, he knows full well I will change it back as soon as I get home

Yup!!

All done, New discs up front, lovely big Sierra steering wheel installed.
Getting in and out is fun now though.
Gave it a little spin, just to bed the pads in a bit.#
Seems OK. Wish I could give it a decent run though.
So fingers crossed again.:p

good afternoon to all!!,

will i be able to use this engine on gsxr carbs and pass sva emmision's test? or will i need injection & catalyst to get through?

it may sound silly but when i have been reading other post's it seem's like it's a 50/50 chance of passing/failing due to cat rules?? 1992 onward's??

i also have a 1800cvh but would rather use the zetec ,i only want to get 1 inlet manifold & 1 exhaust manifold made as im on a none existant budget

has anybody used bikecarb's on a 1800 cvh ? if so anygood?

that is another 1 of my thought's ,i don't want to mess a bonnet up for a single carb on the cvh only to have to replace the bonnet when i chuck a zetec in it with bike carb's sticking out the side

anybody bought a nice exhaust manifold for cvh/zetec?? any picture's as to how they come out of the body as in over the top of the chassis or out of the side panel?

these may seem like silly question's but i want to do this car right & once lol
no time limit so plenty of thinking/planning time

regards

lee

I'm sure that it was after aug 1995 that you need a cat/injection but i'm sure someone will clarify this (or use the search its been asked many times).

You may also get a better response if you start your own thread;)
