Hi all, had a bit of a shunt on Friday night (well, a daft old git crashed into me Here's my rant on the other side (http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=105378&page=1)) and I reckon my pride and joy will be off to the scrap heap in the sky.

Question is, has anyone used a turbo diesel engine or parts for a kit build? Would it work? Seems a shame to dump a perfectly good engine.

Regards,
Beardo

Unlucky John, glad you're ok .:)

I remember Westfield had a turbo diesel once. I suppose the problem would be the gearbox, is it the Volvo engine or the Ford /Peugeot?

Cheers

Chris :)

Ermmmm (looks around blankly) dunno :D Would need to do a bit more investigating :). Cant imagine Westy using a diesel, but clearly its not a totally mad idea. You'd get a lot of miles out of that aly tank :) I would hope its a Volvo/Ford one, if its a Peugeot one I will need a wash with a Brillo pad.

If it is a Ford one, would the Type 9 or MT75 fit it?

Knew a bloke a few yaers back who had a Corsa 1.5TD in a Westy. Basically an Isuzu engine mated to a gearbox from a some Jap 4x4.

There has been a Westy build featured in PPC with a VAG oil burner.

Guy on LCB has built a middy with a tdi in the back.

Tons of go via the huge torque available.
