Does anyone have the dimensions or better still a photo of what needs to be done to an alloy zetec sump (Escort I believe ), to shorten it etc.?, or a photo of a professionally made one from one of the engine tuning companies?.
I believe a steel CVH sump can be used, but they are few & far between and usually rusty, so I think it`s better to use the alloy one I have.
Thanks, Dennis.

if its definitely from an escort (flat bottomed ) it will do as it is if it is for road use
and no need to shorten it as its level with the bell-housing

Les, it is from an Escort (flat bottomed ) & I had wondered if it would do as it is without alterations. I have had it bolted up to the gearbox today, looks pretty much level with the bellhousing but there is a large "lump" where the sump meets the bellhousing, this is a bit lower, only about 10/15 mm, I think this may need to be removed, have you a Zetec engine in your car?.

the only bit i had to adjust on my escort sump was where the starter fitted to the gearbox i had to use a flap disc on the sump side as i couldnt get the starter to fit it took all of two minutes

i will go and take a pic and stick it on my flickr thing below

Thanks very much, that`s great, can I ask did you leave that lump to the right of the flapwheel marks?, it doesn`t seem to be of any use & lines up with nothing at all but it does seem to be the lowest part?

i only mocked the engine and box up on the garage floor to see if it all fitted ok. im in the thinking that if you cut this part of then you will be exposing a large area of the flywheel and all sorts of crap will get into the bell housing. with the part in place i only have to make up a smaller plate for between the box and engine.
