I have reached the point of locating the alternator. After undertaking a search on the subject it appears that little information has been posted.

The book show a new bracket. Does anyone have a photo of the new postion in-situ that I could refer to as a refference point?

I managed to solve this one. I am going to flip the alternator over and mount it with the area above the steering rack. By mounting it on the nearside, it will allow the drive belt to run the alternator in the correct direction directly of the engine and also run the water pump.

I will post a photo of this and the bracket when I get round to making one. Hope it helps someone somewhere down the line.?

Hi Spike.

Don't quite get that
I'll wait for the pic.

Here is a pic of the bracket I made.
I think it was juat a case of mounting the alternator an inch or so higher

Thanks David

The problem I am having is, after fitting that beast off a V6 engine with a close ration box, there is no way that the alternator will fit! Hope to make the brackets before the end of the month.

I'v done it!

This is the mark 1 bracket, I will refine it tomorrow by removing the top section of the bracket that is surplus

On p82 of the book, Chris has a 'rough' drawing of what is needed for the new alternator bracket. Does anyone have the baseplate dimensions for a 1.8 Pinto? I'm gonna get a load of stuff laser cut so was gonna be lazy and get this done at the same time :p

I may have missed the point here but flipping the alternator so it faces back towards the engine will make it run backwards.

Consider the belt as circle, as long as the alternator is in the circle it will run the same way wherever it is mounted.

If the belt turns clockwise any pulley inside will turn the same way, anything outside will turn the opposite way
