Not wishing to hijack GTwice's thread I thought I'll ask the question in a seperate thread.

Is there an easy way for an idiot like myself to identify the type of engine installed in a Sierra?

I've put out feelers for parts and the guys came back offering me complete donors. It's still early days for me but if I stumble across a real bargain, I may just grab it.

Cheers.

Here in SA we didn't have the variety of our cousins up north. 1.6 was a cross flow/kent, 2.0 was a pinto and 3.0 was an essex.

The possible options on a Sierra in the 1.6-2.0 range are:
1.6 and 1.8 CVH:

1.6-2.0 Pinto:

Cosworth Turbo (super rare):

AFAIK CVH and Pinto can be in a fuel injected version as well, you see carbs here.
