Ok next little job is to run my brake and fuel lines. i would appriciate seeing how everyone else has run theirs as i cant make up my mind which way i want to go.

Sorry to jump in here Ash, I am in the same position & would also appreciate any photos of fuel line and brake pipe routing, wiring loom routing, injection fuel pump & filter positioning etc, any photos greatly accepted!

I'm also in the same position. The Book isn't clear about this.
So if some people would be so kind to show some pictures or give some advice, that would be a great help.

Hi, I would run the brake lines the most direct route that keeps them on chassis rails and away from any moving parts.
So the front right should be quite simple run the front left aongside across the front and then back.
the rear should go down the right side of the tunnel to a tee at the back and then to each side from there.
run your fuel line along side the front to rear brake line with the pump close to the tank and yor filter can go either end where theres space you coul put it in the engine bay as a handy place to connect /disconnect to/from the engine run your return alongside the flow pipe
finally run the electrics in a simillar fashiom on the other side of the tunnel
i would try to make the runs as hi in the tunnel as possible to keep them out of harms way

Hi Guys.

Here are a couple of pictures of how I ran mine.
I'm not saying it's the best way, But it worked for me.....lol

Through the tunnel I welded in a couple of pieces of 1mm plate with holes every couple of inches for the clips.
Overkill on the clipping I know, but wasn't sure what the SVA needed.

In the engine bay ( Because I had some premade brake lines that were a bit long) I just layed them in where it seemed the best route for the length of pipes. Again overkill on the clips.

I don't have any pics of the rear. which is just as well.
Just couldn't get the pipework to sit nice and neat.
I would defo do it differently if I was to build another...

What about,two fuel lines together top left of trans tunnel,electrics top right and brake line bottom right of tunnel.
This was disscused previously and mention in the book of a strip of perforated steel used to secure lines etc.

Seven core trailer wiring could solve the rear light scenario but will be a different colour to the original wiring colours if using part of harness.

That's more or less what I did.
Including using 7 core trailer cable for the rear lights.
The cable is running in the flexie conduite in the pic.
with the brake line clipped just under it

may i ask if its worth running a spare fuel line, in case of going fuel injection in the future, as the need for a return fuel line to the tank? would Mr IVA man be concerned of a fuel line that was capped at either end?

Hi Andy.

YES.....:D

In my first picture, the 2 silver pipes are the fuel.
The lower being the feed from the tank
Upper is the return.
I don't have fuel injection, but still has a return.
I can't remember where it is connected.
I ain't going outside to look.....Even Muffin ain't been out today...

I used all the lines from the donor Sierra as they in excellent condition.
So didn't see any point in replacing them.


I wouldn't think there would be any problem with the IVA if you are not using the pipe.
If he askes, tell the truth. You may want to put fuel injection in at a later date.
So though it better to fit the pipe whilst you were building, rather that trying to fit it later.

Andy,the little ally tank connected to the CVH carb has three pipes to and from it, one in, one to carb,and return to tank.
Fit them and you wont have to do it all over again.

Thanks HandyAndy, the handbrake is off a Honda Civic I found in a wrecking yard.
And you are also correct on the adjustable bias valve.

That Pinto pic threw me as well,I remember taking it of the drivers side inner wing and the carbs on the other side.

Old thread I know - but it's where I am now!!!

Looks like most people just drill into the chassis rails (and rivnut?) to secure their p clips?

Does the 'perforated strip' idea mentioned in The Book mean "welding on a strip of 1mm plate that you've drilled a load of holes in" - like the pic in Dogwoods post (page 1 of this thread). And do most people not bother with this approach?

Just want to make sure I weld everything necessary before painting!!!

I used 40 x 3 , drilled every 100mm with 3mm holes for pop rivet's ,top and bottom of tunnel.

You can also paint your chassis, and fit the strip afterwards with rivets, as Simon (Tatey) did:

Cut some 3mm x 25mm strip this weekend ready to weld in the tunnel - couple of pics on my blog (link in footer)...
