sva/ iva query

hi could anyone tell me if it is essential to fit edging strips on the front and rear arches, and also if i use a bike can thes ends just in front of the front scuttle would this pass or not, cheers

AS far as we have discussed on the forum there is no trim fitting required. As long as there is no sharp edge then you are ok for IVA. I am sure there is edge trimmings on rear wheel arches, some put thenm on the front as better finish!

cheers fella, sorry everyone the secon bit wasnt too clear. i have a stainless 4-1 manifold which ends just at the back of the engine, but obviously outside the car. my plan is to simply atatch a carbon motorbike exhaust to this so that it sat just in front of the driver, because i have it and it looks cool, however was wondering if this would be ok for the iva, assuming the noise isnt too much, cheers if anyone can help.

also does anyone here build looms, i hate electrics

i have put trim round my front and rear arches and bonnet edges. i used about 8m out of the 10m i ordered.

Just to throw a spanner in the works

i dont recall seeing or hearing of a 7 type car passing sva/iva with out it as all edges need a 5mm radius.

i,ll be using the trim for IVA ,but maybe bits will fall off on the way home:eek: :D

Unless the part in question is at least 5mm thick it is not possible for it to have a 2.5mm radius, so most front wings will need edging.

If a wing's edges are turned in, as many rear wings are, then no edging needed.

im just gonna plaster my car in the stuff like all the other pictures i have seen.

if im not sure about something its getting covered simples. my car is gonna have so much rubber trim that is will be more bouncy than a bouncy castle.

I keep in touch with Mark and Colin at Mac1 Motorsport up in Sheffield and they are getting cars through IVA no problem, they are the lads to ask when it comes to what is required and they also offer an "IVA service" which sounds like a damn good idea.

There is some questions now about the permanence of edge protection but so far edge trim seems to work and is accepted.
I would carry plenty of spare stuff and some silicon sealer, when i had some trim loose on the front wings the tester comented that it was loose but did not say what i should do so i went to the van and came out with a box of trim and some silicon sealer and just glued it back, he was happy.
The exhaust will only need a rolled edge to the end.
The Db requirement is now less than it was, 99db i think, so a bike can may not be quiet enough

What a carrying on, I looked at the IVA manual and there were a few clearing up needed. The numbers on the wesite had all changed, eventually I got through and asked to speak to an examimer, Yes what is your question I need to check she replied I had to wait then I questioned what she was telling me then she had to go back and check again. Oh boy she did not have a clue!!!!!!!!!!
