... but it is my Pinto and I want it to look good when it goes in the car. So i popped down to Toolstation, picked up a set of these -

Yes that is £1.51 a set!

Got the engine up on the new stand, sat on the chair with drill in hand and within 45 min one side of the engine had gone from this -

I'm a very happy chappy - the wire wheels have done a fantastic job! Just need to finish the rest of it off now!

haha im doing exactly the same job today. im going to paint mine

i have taken the head off as i managed to get crap down one of the exhaust ports. i have also managed to get a head and bottom end gasket set for mine with all new oil seals for the crank etc etc.

notice that we have both got exactly the same engine stand too. £40 from machine mart bargain :D

did you take your distributor off to replace with electronic ignition? i notice you have capped off the hole

Hey Ash

I'm giving mine a good going over externally, along with a new cambelt and new gaskets where required. I got a top end gasket set and gates cambelt for £15! I've also picked up a set of ZX6R :D carbs for £36 to go on her. Gonna order some paint soon - heard good things about POR-15 engine paint.

At the moment I have a lusting to go after electronic ignition. I removed the dizzy to make the cleaning easier. The brass plug is just a cap for now. I keep telling myself just to get the engine in and running, but having spent time tuning engines with the luxuries of Motec ECU's and engine dyno the bug is hard to shake - even for a mere 1.8 Pinto :p
