I am about to make my pedal bushes but am unsure what im actually doing

The book doesnt say anything about a crush tube, and the pedal stops are held in place by the same bolt as the pedal so im assuming they are fastened up tight which would hold the bush tight as the bush is .5mm bigger than the pedal:

so does the entire pedal rotate on the bush? (the only option in my head if the bolt was tight)

or the bush on the bolt?

or should i make crush tubes like on the suspension bushes?

Speedy replys appreciated as i wanna get in the garage and do some work :D

Thanks in advance

It doesn't help you this afternoon Mark but if you get some ptfe rod, only a few quid, just over the size of the bush (25mm), chamfer the end and hammer it into the bush tube, or squeeze in with vice. Then you can drill through the center and insert your own 12mm crush tube slightly oversized (30mm). I did this with mine and gives a nice smooth feel with no play at all.

Some on e-bay but you have to pay £4 postage...

Thanks Andy

They are all done now :) i already had some 22mm acetal rod ready for the job and i found some stainless steel tube in my little pile of bits and pieces the perfect size to make crush tubes.

They work really well, was a bit of a pain to try and drill the bushes dead centre when you havnt got a lathe lying about  but a few attempts on the pillar drill got them pretty central.

thanks

Grand Job Mark, the good thing is you don't need to get them central as long as the crush tubes have something to rotate on......:D

You need one of these to find the centre:D

Then use a centre drill to start the hole (usually used on lathes for the same purpose)

I actually have one ......... somewhere in all my boxes of stuff at work!

Well something very similar anyway, it was one of the first things i made in the machine shop as an apprentice, i remember my old teacher saying it will be one of your most useful tools and he was right! except i can never find it when i need it

What we do is cut the tube slightly shorter than the book recommends and fit some of these

http://www.bearingboys.co.uk/Flanged_Oilite_Bearings-1256-c

We then fit a crush tube 15mm in diameter with an 8mm hole in it. This provides a self lubricating set up that gives a long trouble free life.

Kind regards

John
