i,m using the 1.8 cvh that came with my donor, tho i,m sure it,ll go bang in time for winter ;)

i,m being like a boy scout " be prepared" & so i,m collecting the bits i,ll need to rectify the above problem , bike carbs, megajolt & an engine that starts with a Z :D
& fitting a prop capable of more than the cvh can give;)

cheers

I4 8V = 125 BHP ( cat version arroun 118 for comparison )
I4 2.0 16V RS2K = 150BHP
I4 2.0 16V = 134BHP

im keeping my options open at the moment but somthing tells me it will be a zetec 2.0 from the power to cost of install

theres loads of good motors that could be used i quiet fancy a rover k (light) or redtop if a cheep bell housing comes up.

2.1 Pinto to replace a 2.1 Pinto that i killed, then i will rebuild the original 2.1 Pinto. Current build has Cosworth rods, V6 pistons, 10.6 to 1 comp and a new Kent RL31 cam.
Emissions are 3.5 CO and 1200 ppm HC on my V5 so anything i put in should pass MOT

I shall be using the fine lump of metal that is the 8v DOHC...what a beast.

Have been thrashing the missus 2.0 Mondy around this week as I am off work & imagining what it would feel like with half the weight:D The fat old thing likes to rev she does.

I'm planning on using the 1.6 Pinto from my donor, with minimal work (a good clean-up, new points, oil, filter and cam belt will be about it) to get me IVA'd. Then replace it with a road tuned 2l Pinto (a nice winter's project).

yes, your right TT and just had a look under the bonnet to double check. I was making the assumption on such an old car it would be points. Nice not to have them, they were a bit of a pain to set up.

Note to self: read Haynes manual more thouroughly! :D

twinturbo
27th February 2010, 08:53 AM
HAHAHAHA :D

It's basic, but it works.

I hate points, i ditched them on our MK1 golf in favour of Lumenition Optronic. That's shelved now that the car now has EFi with a POLO GT lump.

You will find 3 multiplugs behind the dash, 3 pin (round) , 6 pin (square) , 9 pin (square) . These connect the engine loom to the main loom.
for easy seperation

Great thinking Eternal, my next car will be based around the Rx8 with the 13b 231hp engine. Dont think i would need the Turbo though...

Had an Rx8 for a few years and they are fantastic cars, not very Torquey but would be marvellous in the Roadster.....:D

Hi all,
I'm planning on fitting my 1.8 zetec which I already had and fit it with bike carbs, but need to look into a bit more with regards to inlet manifold lenghts airbox size?. If to complicated will stick with standard setup.

That's a 3.0L quad cam 32v V8 for those not in the know. 220bhp and enough torque to pull a house down. And just yesterday I got it turning over - Woo Hoo!

I voted for using a CVH, but after buying a runner for £40 i'll be going down the 1.8 Zetec route on ZX9R carbs and megajolt.

1.6 ZETEC SE is a cracking power unit if you get a good un but they're bloody expensive to do any work on. 105BHP out of the box and anything up to 160BHP is pretty easy to achieve with relatively minor work. more money and time can go a lot further. Plus its an all alloy lump so lightweight to boot. I've just done a head gasket on a 1.6 SE engined Fiesta S for my daughter and its obscenely quick! If I was building from scratch by the book I'd be seriously thinking about one of these motors.
