Spoke to VOSA this morning. got a date for for my IVA. FRIDAY 19th FEB!!!

I didn't know it was possible to be excited and shitting it at the same time.

Yep it is possible to be excited & bricking it at the same time ......... I have just laid a brick & it isn't even my own build :eek: :D

I’m am trying to get my engine in the right place to mock up engine mounts, can you remember that long ago?

I just asked Nicky what we are doing on Fri 19th. All she said is it’s still half term. Read into that what you will!

What time are you leaving your gaff?

early as i want to go the longer way to give the brakes a chance to bed in. hopefully dogwood will be there to back me up with some tools. ckc should also be there if the tester agrees to it.

i guess i better ask how many people they are comfortable with on-site as i wouldn't want to turn up with an army of people and upset the chap testing the car.

Good luck with the test Ash, i'm sure all will be okay.

Even if you're car is perfect though he will find something that you can fix there and then which means booking in for a re-test on the afternoon.....:( I'm sure they get half of the re-test fee as a bonus.

nope im driving it. if it fails and isnt aloud to drive home then i will go home and get the trailer. if i wasnt confident to drive the car i built then i wouldnt be going for the test

spud if its good enough to pass it will pass. i have spoke to andy the tester down there and he is a really nice guy. if it needs a retest then so be it. i just think its great that you can build your own car from bits of metal in the shed and actually be able to drive it on the road!!

Just like going to a pre-booked MOT you can drive a car there out of MOT. Even if you fail you can drive it home as long as the examiner deems the failure to be not an imminent danger to the user or other road users. If it breaks down on the way to the test you would be well miffed though.

As far as i know .... You can drive the car to an IVA inspection, provided that you have adequate insurance cover of course.

Should you fail you may also drive the vehicle straight back to where the remidial work is to be done .... If the examiner finds a defect that renders the vehicle dangerous to drive, he may prohibit the vehicle from being driven away.. !!??

yes you may drive your car to iva as long as you have insurance. infact you can drive your car to any pre booked ministry of transport appointment with just insurance.

my iva centre is about 10 miles from me but if i go there through the lanes its about 11 miles but i will have more chances to use the brakes and get them bedded in. if it breaks down on the way then i will just go get the trailer :D

it had a whole day of being hammered on the rolling road and didn't miss a beat once so im quite confident that it will make it.

Good luck with IVA. I’m shore it will sail though. Did you take it for MOT? I no you do not need it but it gives you a chance to dive it there and back. I booked one over 10 miles away.:D

adrian what size were you rear drums? 203x46mm or 229x64?

mine are the smaller ones with 20.6mm rear cylinders i did some calculations adapting your spreadsheet and i think the front rear bias should be ok.

frankie did you have any issues with your braking?

Hi Ash mate.

Finaly got back to the UK safe and sound.
Best part of 500 miles of snow...:eek:

My comp still up the shoot so borrowing Jills at the mo.
I'll pop over tomorrow, assuming you're about and drop off that stuff.

Yea I'm all up for the test next friday...8:00am Test though.

BTW my rear drums are 9"x 2.5"
Don't know what the discs are, they ae still in the boot of the Escort.

I put all new parts or recon as new on my car. I had coved over 100mile befor SVA:D so the brakes had beded in well.

everything on mine is new other than the rear drums.

thats good to know dave as mine are 8 inch with 1.8inch shoes. that works out at 1/3 less surface area combined with the smaller slave cylinder.

240's on the front. more than enough for a 500-600kg car. when people fit willwood callipers they actually change from 240 vented to 260 solid. if you go too big you will just lock the wheels too easily.

Why would you change to solid? It will have the same rotational force and pad surface as vented but without the benefit of the disk cooling under heavy use.

i believe its an exercise to reduce unsprung weight. As 7s are so light brakes designed for a tonne of sierra are overkill.
