Hi, i haven't had much time to work on my chassis recently!but try to look in to the forum regularly to keep up todate.i have just come to offer up TT7, the book states the lenght as 830 measuring up between SB3 and TT4 it is coming out nearer 822, could someone confirm the lenght of TT7,it could be that TT4 is not right although checking this it seems square.
or have i gone very wrong somewhere!

Hi Davey,

TT7 is indeed 830mm with a 19 degree angle at the SB3 end,

Have you fitted TT1 into position yet? if so did you have a problem there?
If TT1 are correct then the only thing I can think of (presuming your BR rails are in the correct positions) is that you haven,t got the angle correct of the SB1,s (leaning back 17 degree,s), if that was out by a few degree it would shorten the distance between SB3 & TT4....( I also presume that TT4,s are the correct length?) , as you can see on page 45, fig 4.18 the TT7 rails rise up from TT4 to SB3.

Hi, thanks for the quick response,just quickly checking it looks like the SB1 assembly angle is 16.5 degrees which would make a difference.
Would 1/2 a degree make any difference overall i don,t fancy grinding of welds to get the angle spot on having completed some of the rear suspension area.

I'll check the TT4 lengths as well.

I wouldn,t have thought 1/2 degree would make you lose 8mm of overall length, so there must be something else amiss.

Have you been fully welding as you,ve built your chassis up? if so it might be due to heat distortion.

I,d suggest checking the cross diagonal measurements as per page 34 fig 4.2 to check that the base rails are in the correct position.

The only other thing I can think of (without seeing the chassis) is where TT7,s are cut with the 19 degree angle at one end, are you measuring from the angled point of the cut on TT7 ?

Just check all dimensions, i,m sure you,ll find it somewhere.

Hi Andy,
thanks for your help it has been very useful, when double checking all the dimensions again as you suggested,i realized i was measuring to the top edge of SB4 not SB3 no wonder i was so far out!
The distance measured is 829 for TT7,so everythings ok!
I suppose having not worked on the chassis for a while i got a bit confused and panicked that i had gone very wrong.

So thanks again for your sound advice.

glad you got it sorted ,

measuring to the top of SB4 instead of top edge of the SB3 gives a difference of 25mm, coupled with the 17 degree backwards angle of the seat back area would cause you losing the 8mm.

at least it was worth double checking everything before you started grinding off welds cos of the half a dergree prob.

yeah at times after time away from the build the mind can play tricks on you :eek: ;)

I sometimes look at something that i,ve done a 100 times & i end up with a blank expression :o
