I have just about finished my chassis now, I only have the headlamp mounts to do and a bit of tidying up. My question is - how have people made the headlamp mounts IVA friendly? It seems to me that they would have to be made of at least 5mm thick tube to get an acceptable radius on the bottom edge. I understand that sticking a bit of trim on there is not acceptable any more so how have other builders got around this? Your thoughts would be appreciated....

I used a bit of 3mm walled tube for mine .... May be completely barking up the wrong tree !!?? ... But If you are only puting a radius on the outside edge, you'll only need material thicker than 2.5mm ??

You could also choose a size of tube that you can get a plastic end cap for ;) Bop that in there .... that should take care of any radius issues :)

That said .... I havn't been through the IVA ...... Yet :o

Thanks Ronnie, as I see it if they van make the test sphere contact any part with a radius of less than 2.5mm it's a fail point. I don't know if the sphere can touch the inner edge. Your idea of a cap has triggered an idea though..
Thanks for your response.

you are fine with the u-trim on those as u-trim is what would be used on a normal car. just make sure its the stuff that has the metal liner up the middle of it rather than the floppy rubber stuff.

So is this on the bottom of the round tube that the headlamp bolts into?

TT, yes, that's what I am on about.
Ash, thanks for that. I was under the impression that the U trim was generally considered to be a temporary fix and therefore unacceptable. Thanks for the info - that makes life a lot easier.

U trim is ok used in the correct application like trimming body panels etc. what is not acceptable is stuck on bits of rubber u channel on places it wouldn't be normally intended for.

In other words, Ash, if its what you'd expect to see on a production car then its Ok. If you wouldn't expect to see it on a production car then its not!

It could be argued that the door trims around the Sierra (and most other cars) are effectively U trim combined with the door seal. The U trim fits over sharp metal edges on that so it should be ok. That sounds so convincing I amy use that at IVA time :p
Thanks again guys.
