Hiya, if its not too much trouble can someone knowledgable about such things (twinturbo?) point me in the direction, (or even better 'sticky' a list!:) ) of what year/models are 'the best' donors .

Keeping an eye out for something local....

As I understand it I should be looking for a 2.0 Pinto with Type 9, 5 speed box,
possibly with discs on rear as opposed to drums.

The DOHC and CVH don't seem so popular from what I've read
& from Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Sierra seems a pre '89 2 litre is the one to go for, correct?

Thanks in advance for any pointers

:)

The pre 92's are generally better, as they are pre-cat, making emissions on the iva a lot easier

The advantage of rear discs im not sure would yeald missing a nice drum spec car

The pinto is a nice engine, very popular

DOHC is a good engine, just physically bigger than the cvh and Pinto

Iv personally always liked the cvh engine as long as its been looked after, i had an XR2 years ago and that went like stink, also a '90 spec' Escort XR3i, which aslo ran lovely, so i would be happy with either a CVH or a Pinto

Hi TQ,

might be worth thinking long term as well to help you decide what engine you want.

A lot of people (i believe) tend to upgrade their engines once they are through the IVA if they haven't took the plunge already.

I personally have got a cvh which when i decide to go zetec, apparently is a straight forward change. Exhausts are the same side, mounts, sump, starter etc.

But sierras are getting rarer so I probably wouldn't be too picky. All personal choice at the end of the day, anyway good luck in your search.

Damn this one is a little too soon. i will be looking for one in a month or so! I plan to do the same build of a standar sierra (what ever i can get for low cost) then change to a rotary 13b in the future after i have got used to the car. but first things first i need to start to get materials for chassis and build the thing!

The only cars with MT75's are 2.9's and 2.0 DOHC.. Everything else should have a type 9.

EFI Pinto's make good money, lesser carbed pintos are very simple engines making them easy to rebuild with tons of parts. But they are not particularly refined.

Twincams are BIG and can be expensinve to rebuild, they tend to kill head gaskets adn sometimes crack the head.

CVH's are quite refined compact units, cheap on parts ( especialy the 1.6 )

Or go for a V6 like me :)

DRUMS/VS/DISKS..... I have 10" Drums. I woudl not bother with disks as the handbrake mechanism is more trouble than it's worth.
