Fixing stuff in the trans tunnel.

Hi folks, I am getting to the stage of fitting the floor soon but want to sort all the stuff that runs through the tunnel first - brake pipe, wiring, fuel feed and fuel return. The tubes are only 19mm so using P clips screwed or rivetted to the tubes will not give me much room. What have others done? I am thinking of maybe an alli strip running the length of the tunnel and about 2 inches wide would do the trick. I could then run everything along one side and secure it every 4 inches to keep the IVA man happy. Any thoughts gratefully received.

your suggestion of an ali strip is a good solution.....

BUT

Do NOT run the fuel lines on the same ali strip as the electrics,

I,ve basically used a corner of the tranny tunnel for each ....fuel & brake lines at the top of the tunnel & electrics at the bottom.

Tho Spud has an ali strip like your suggestion but with the electrics away on their own.

Hi Andy, That's a good point, maybe I will run the fuel and brake lines one side and electrics the other. As the brake master cylinder is the same side as where the injection rail is that would make sense and keep everything safe. I can then exit my fuse box so it's a straight run down the tunnel on the other side. I would probably be fine using just rubbered p clips for the loom if it's the only thing on that side. :) Thanks bloke!!

my fuel line is at the top on the drivers side as it seemed to "position itself" well for getting to the carb,( carb on drivers side )

My electrics are placed in the opposite bottom corner (passenger side lower rail) as far away as poss from the fuel lines.

Other than keeping them away from eachother no real reason why they are where they are I suppose ( tho my fuse box / relays are inside the scuttle on the passenger side ).

i've not done mine yet - but i plan on putting brake and fuel at the top of the tunnel - simply because removing the gearbox risks bashing the fuel / brake lines at the bottom when lifted out.

This is how I fixed mine.
Length of 3mm strip. Predrilled with loads of oles.
Fuel one side, brake and lektrix tother.

Thanks, David, looks like the sort of thing I will be doing. I am thinking I can pre-drill the strip with rows of 3.2mm holes for rivets or self tappers, which will make life a lot easier when I come to fit stuff in the tunnel. Just got to find some appropriate alli strip now.

B&Q carpet edge trim ;) the stuff that joins a carpet at a door , cheap & profiled too :cool: & about the right length too.

If you use carpet door strips, make sure you paint them as they will desolve if salt gets on them. there made from a very low grade ally.

The best place to buy there strips is a proper carpet shop, as you will be able to buy them in either 8' or 3m lenghts.
