Hi! I am building a locost in Sweden and have a problem that someone here perhaps can solve for me, it is an old chassie, (the first book) that I am fitting with sierra front and rear suspension with the Haynes book as a guide, I have bought all parts in the rear from 3GE and found a complete rear end, axels, diff from a MK Indy that is uppgrading to a 7,5 LSD, so far everything is good. But when I will weld the new brackets RS1 and RS2 the distanse between them is set by RS3 and it is 471 mm by the book, but my axel is much wider so I need to make the RS3 540 mm! If not the lower a-arms is to short. I attach the axel on the bench and took some pictures so you can see for your self http://www.locostsweden.se/ipb/index.php?showtopic=8437, it seems that the axels are too long? Or is the mesure in the book wrong? The distans between left and rear drum is 1570 mm so it is pretty wide I think.

Pagen,

Have you checked the book amendments, the original version required shortened drive shafts but the wishbones where then modified to allow fitting of the original unmodified shafts.

See http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=2430

And don't forget that when all bolted up the CV joints will be compressed so while sitting "free" they will measure longer.

I hope that solves your problem as I've only speed read your post!!!
