Just wondering if anybody has made their scuttle to the book plans.? I am going to make a steel one but looking at the steering column the book design would have to be changed as there is no way a bit of 1 inch square would fit between the column and TR9. Anybody done this? Am I going mad? Just want a quick sanity check before going any further.

Did you find a solution to this problem? I'm thinking of fabricating the scuttle myself.
Thanks

I did fabricate it in the end, it actually ended up very satisfying. If you look at my build diary there are some photos in there - www.deepfolly.co.uk
It was quite tricky to get the two hoops of 3mm x 25mm steel to form properly - because the front of the scuttle is smaller than the back the rear hoop has to kind of angle inwards and downwards so the skin goes on properly. It took a fair bit of messing about but then I have never done anything like it before so if you know what you are doing you will find it easier than I did.
Hope that helps,
Enoch

Thanks Dave. I have been following your blog and have found it informative and at times entertaining :D It was your blog that gave me the idea of doing it myself.
Can you give me some hieght dimensions? there are none in the book, and as you say there is a hieght difference from the back to the front of the scuttle.
Any help appreciated :)

old_bill, you can find the basic proportions of the Saturn GRP scuttle here:

Personally, I would make the scuttle continue the lines of the bonnet, so the rear would be about 1 cm higher than the front, something along these lines:

Hi Bill, it's more or less like Alga's diagram except I made mine slightly higher because of the height of my DOHC engine. The rest of the dimensions / angles were kept the same, my one was about 20mm higher than "standard"

Try dropping Mark Allanson a PM, Trophy Blue on here, he made his scuttle and I'm sure he has a PDF to show how he did it.

Kind regards
