Evening...Started stripping my granada today ...reining myself in to rip it to bits without labelling everything...and photographing...the granada loom is huge ...electric everything....SO my first question is how do you vent the aircon system in a safe sort of way..and do you usually leave the aircon pump on the engine so the belt pattern is the same...2ND question if i undo the prop shaft bolts is it an easy lift out with engine with fron x member removed ??

Virtually all cars from the modern era the easist way to get all the bits out is to drop the whole subframe, suspension, engine and box down onto some dollies or even the floor, and lift the front of the car up and over.

It's how all that stuff went in at the factory

If you've got some dollies then all you have to do is to lift the front of the car and pull the engine etc out.

Best to leave the rear wheels on till this stage is complete

I have got my hands an engine hoist for free too !

Easiest way to pull the motor from a Granny with an engine crane is cut out the front lower panel with a dangle grinder then pull the motor and gearbox out in one go with the hoist.

If I am having the front suspension out as well, easier still is use the crane to lower the whole lot onto the floor, then use the crane to lift the bodyshell up so the power unit/subframe/suspension can be pulled out from underneath.

If the suspension is not being removed, then that would not be the best way.

I found it easier to remove engine and box and leave subframe till last, that way I retained a rolling shell during the strip down and pulled the suspension off last just before I scrapped the shell.

That's how I stripped my first Sierra donor :)

That way I still had a rolling shell .... This was then towed to the breakers on my A frame.
Once there, I undone all of the pre-loosened bolts & got them to lift the shell from the running gear.
Threw the A frame & running gear into the back of my truck & off I went :D

Is it a twin fuses box granada or a single fusebox granada.

If it's single then the engine loom simply unplugs under the dash.

I would then ( personaly ) forget about the rest of the loom apart from any interconecting multiplugs that may be needed.

Never had bother with prop bolts. If the shells a scrapper then I cut a hole in the floor so I can see it from the top :)

Hammer and chissle will do the floor nicely.

Never split the leaver of an MT75, Just drop the box myself.

Right thats the engine out...nut splitter and a good impact gun did the trick...bust the nut splitter on the last nut so its back to screwfix for sa replacement...forgetting to mention the use of buzz gun !!!.....ANOTHER question....how much of the loom do i carefully remove ? i have the ECU out but by god do i have more other parts of the loom ie ABS (not needed) Bulb failure unit ...wondering if the whole lighting loom goes through that....any assistance regarding 2.0 DOHC loom would be very much appreciated....

I would junk everything apart from the engine loom. there's an excelent wiring diagram thread for a simple loom that will cover all you need.

The donor loom ( in my opinion having owned, stripped, fixed rebuilt countless sierras + granada and scorpio ) would take more time and effort than building a new custom loom.

Firstly thanks for your help TT But i am going to be a pest again...i have located the loom from the passengers footwell going to the two multi blocks that connect up to the engine efi and the coil ...but the loom branches off at the multi plug and twists through the dash... how much of this do i need....was trying to get the whole lot out including fuse box ...lost my temper so have to give up for the day...

It's me on the sierra forum, Ford Power, Powerd by ford, XROC, MK1 golf, Galaxy owners... I am all over the place, and a few computer forums too :)

91 Should be a single fusebox car, the ECU loom should unplug from the car loom with two multiplugs ( if I remember rightly ) . with that undone you have the standalone engine loom. If the plugs are the same as the 24V V6 then you will find the details of the pinouts of the plugs on my website.
