Feeling a little frail from a trip to the breakers yesterday & a Sunday afternoon from hell, trying to remove a FUBAR'ed security nut from one of my jeep wheels ( Got the bu**er in the end ) :eek:

Today I thought I would have a play with the engine wiring loom :)

When myself & Jas removed the engine from the Escort, I butchered the loom as I was intending to use Megasquirt & throttle bodies !!??

Any how's, hade a change of tac & have now decided to get the engine running with the stock ECU.

One major problem was solved when I came across an ECU harness at the breakers.

So today I dropped the ECU harness in the passenger footwell, found my bag of Escort engine loom & plugged in 2 of the 3 connectors .... So far so good.

Could I find the 3rd part of the loom !!?? Could I heck .... Finally discovered the missing plug, only to find that it is a mangled mess.
Just a plug with a mass of long wires :rolleyes:

Now I have the problem of tracing the Lambda sensor & MAF sensor wires back to the ECU pin outs ..... Not looking forward to that task.

Does anyone happen to know where I can find a decent EEC IV pin out drawing ?
There is one in the Escort manual but it is difficult to follow for an old fart like me with dodgy eyesight :o

Nothing at my favorite breakers at the moment :(
There is another just down the road that I can try.

Early Zetec engined escort are getting a bit thin on the ground !!

For that part of the loom, it may not matter though .

Here's where I am at so far

Injectors, wired
Throttle position sensor, wired
Idle controll unit, wired
Cam position sensor, wired
Coil pack & balast, wired
Edis4. wired
Air temp sensor, Wired
Oil pressure light, wired
Gearbox speed sensor ( No idea if the ECU needs a signal from this ) Wired but not fitted to gearbox !!??
The 2 temp sensors to thermostat housing, Wired

On the engine sensor side of things, I think I only need to trace 2 vital components.

Id the 4 wires for the Lambda sensor
Id the 4 wires for the Mass airflow sensor
Both of those plugs are still on a section of loom .... I just need to tie those 8 wires into Plug 3 of the engine/ECU harness :o

Things got a bit confusing when I noticed that 3 of the 8 wires are just plain Brown !! .... I am assuming that the are all negative wires but do not know if they need to be grouded, direct to the ECU

Alternator & starter can be wired up from scratch.

No idea if the cooling fan swich is tied to the ECU in any way ?

Once I have sorted that out, I will then have to identify the wires that had to be cut on the ECU loom, the ones that went to the fuse box & into dash ( That's a nice little bundle too ) :D

if you have got the edis4 wired up then you have all you need for spark. with injectors tps and temp sensors it should run.

if it wont i will pop down this weekend and give you a hand when im down for exeter if you like.

Well & truely on top of the problem now.

I grabbed the spare EEC IV plug that I had from the Escort donor & all of the tail's are now neatly labled.

Having taken the time to read all of the schematics & ECU pinout's, it is all really quite simple ( Famous last words ) :D

Going to make up the loom from scratch .... In the long run, it will probably be way quicker than unbinding & sorting all of the crap from the donor loom !!??
Might even learn a few things in the process.

Thanks for that offer Ash, it really means a lot to me.

My build will be on hold for the next week or so .... MOT time for my Jeep.
Quite pleased with the test today, only failed on handbrake effort & a track rod end.
Had quite a few advisory's though so I am going to do those as well, that should keep me busy for a day or two !!??

Also have an auxilary fuel tank to fabricate for a Motor X bike.

That information was just the ticket, it served very well to double check that I had identified all of the ECU pinout's correctly.

All were spot on, in fact, your spreadsheet even id'd the 2 wires that I couldn't via the Haynes manual !!??
Namely the Two air con wires, at least I know that I don't need em.
