It Lives Again

Engine ran again today(1.8cvh) for the first time in about 18 months.Frightened the life out of me when it fired not least because I had my hand over the carb to try and choke it. I ran around the workshop jumping up and down heart rate at about 120 beats / sec.:D Then had to go outside to relieve the CO poisoning.

I need to tidy the wiring up now then its bodywork. The important thing is a major cycle illogical milestone reached.;)

Ill post some pics of the first run out of the garage when we get a couple of dry days:)

I can just picture this scenario :D

A huge well done on this major milestone of your build, indeed it is a great feeling ( no, not the CO poisoning ).

Look forward to seeing the video, as I was once told..." no video means it didn,t happen " :p :D

cheers

Take off is very " snatchy" poss due to lack of any shock absorbing donuts in the prop shaft. Is this normal ? Prop is D&F .Can the problem be improved?

get a 1.3 capri clutch cable its shorter than the sierra one and can be adjusted to stop the clutch snatching

Cheers Ash:)

Hardly... but I can see they work : you can stop :)

ayjay 16th April 2012 10:00 PM

Just won an auction for a brand new 1.3 Capri clutch cable.
£2.99 + £2.50pp:D :D :D

ayjay 20th April 2012 09:19 PM

Looking like a car

Got 3 sheets of ali and started to make templates.
Car is now completely clad inside and out in white card.
Looks neat.I'm tempted to paint it-----noooooooo:D

ayjay 21st April 2012 05:54 PM

Got my Capri clutch cable yesterday, trial fitted it today .Shorter than the sierra one and has a long adjustment thread to take up slack.A lot better than the sierra one. Good call Ash:)

Found my brake MC has been secretly leaking down the pedal box and floor - ruined the paint and made a right mess:mad:

Ho hum you win some you lose some:o

fuel filler

The fuel filler neck from my donor Sierra is a good fit over the filler stub on my ali tank.
Is there any petrol resistant sealant I can use to fit it ?
If so my filler would be accessed by opening the top panel over the rear tub Would that be IVA acceptable ?

ayjay 24th April 2012 06:04 PM

Is that a "no" then? :o

ozzy1 24th April 2012 06:45 PM

At work we use araldite, but the fuel never comes into contact with the glue in the situation we use it. Maybe best to use a piece of proper rubber hose and a clamp. I recall from previous that if your fuel filler cap is in the boot area it needs to be left open and not closed off although I stand to be corrected.

ayjay 24th April 2012 09:53 PM

Thanks Oz.
That makes sense .However I cant seem to find a sensibly priced exterior fitting fuel cap that wont break the bank .All the motorcycle type ones seem to be an arm and two legs

ozzy1 24th April 2012 10:42 PM

I got mine from rally design but there is always ;
Europa spares
Cbs
Burton power
And I think tifosi

ayjay 24th May 2012 10:30 PM

Quietly getting there

A bit of progress:)

robo 24th May 2012 10:58 PM

Ebay: type in deck fillers start @£10 for plastic

MikeB 25th May 2012 12:12 PM

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HOLT-YS850...item3f1789c15c

seems cheap, would it do the job

K4KEV 25th May 2012 01:24 PM

I could be tempted with that, especially at that price

SeriesLandy 25th May 2012 03:16 PM

Bargin, wish I had known about that before I bought mine!!

ayjay 25th May 2012 08:17 PM

I always understood that the fuel cap needs to be locked.Whats the position on it please.
Those deck fillers look good ---if It will get past IVA !

Any wise thoughts on the above please

K4KEV 29th May 2012 11:27 PM

just had a quick look at the IVA manual and it seems that if it is not lockable then the cap must be tethered to the tank or body......see below

15. A fuel filler cap must positively locate to the filler neck and incorporate an
adequate sealing arrangement so that a fuel leak is not possible.
16. The fuel filler cap must either be tethered to the vehicle or be of a lockable
type where the key can only be removed when the cap is locked or an
automatically opening and closing, non-removable fuel filler cap
(Post 0 5 / 2009 vehicles only)

so I guess the deck filler would pass if it is tethered in some way.

Just been surfing on the bay and I notice some of these deck fillets actually have a tether fitted and there are some quite nice looking stainless ones (also a pretty cheezy plastic chrome one :D)

Am I the only one who removed the filler pipe with the lockable filler cap off the Sierra with hopes of fitting it to the roadster?

ayjay 1st June 2012 01:35 PM

I am using the original filler pipe at present. I have to lift the rear lid to fill it. However it is not the locking cap because it was the locking flap type. It works perfectly well but as I understand things ,if it is inside the 'boot' then the boot must not be covered.
