Big day
please accept my apologies for this thread but just had to tell someone that my chassis ( rolling ), with steering & full suspension fitted will see daylight for the very first time tomorrow, i,m like a big kid with the excitement of it all :o :D .
the chassis will be taken out of the garage so that i can have a mega tidy up & dismantle the build table, you won,t believe how much stuff (Roadster related ) is stored under the table, so need to clear the space for the chassis to be rolled back into the garage backwards so that i,ve got the engine end at up over garge door end to aid when need to fit engine, tho thats a while off yet. sorry for boring you to sleep but its a big day for me & my build. hopefully photos will be posted tomorrow evening on the forum. i hope the weather is kind to me :D cheers andy |
Well done
Well done on reaching this milestone of you build.
Really can't belive that you only started this project a few short months ago  Looking forward to seeing some pictures of your progress. :) Well done Andy |
Thanks Adrian,
yes i,ll be glad when engine goes in, as sick of banging my head on it  :D , its in a cradle stand so its about 3 ft from the ground & i,m always banging into it, does this sound familiar to anyone ? :D tho my chassis is rolling, its far from ready for fitting out, as i,m basically fitting everything that is needed to put it on its wheels , to check every thing fits etc then it,ll be stripdown time for chassis painting, i,ve also still got some brackets to weld on yet, headlight brackets/ rad / brake line etc tomorrow is basically the first stage of rolling chassis. i,ll take lots of photos for my build log i,d love to know what the first thing the neighbours say to themselves.... "what the bloody ell is that????" :D springs to mind. cheers andy |
Well done Andy keep this pace up and before you know it you'll be on the road

That's good news :D
and wait 'till the very first time the engine starts :D (got motivated again.. going back in the drawing room now..) |
Quite apt that your newborn could take its first steps on Fathers Day!
Good luck mate and enjoy today. Have sympathy for me - I am at Curborough watching a load of Westfields do a sprint. |
just got home, what a day  :D
gonna have dinner then download some photo.s..... the photo,s have a slight twist & worth waiting for ;) all will be revealed soon. cheers andy Slim..... i didn,t think of it being Fathers Day, but yes my "baby" took its first rolling steps today. smiles. |
right here,s my chassis today, first time out of the garage.
hope i can still work out how to post a photo. would you like the next photo with a twist???:D |
here,s the twist :D
what a day!!! just think of when waiting for a bus ???? wait for ages then 2 turn up at once :D here,s one made earlier ;) thanks to Spud69 for coming over totally unexpected & making a great day into a brilliant day. andy |
Nice One !;)
|
Brilliant Andy and spud's car looks really nice as well - don't think I have seen #005 before!
|
Thanks guys , i,m still on a high after today.
whats the chances of 2 Roadsters within 11 miles or so of eachother, both owned by 2 andy,s & both the same colour ???? can,t wait till mines finished & Spud & i go for a "sunday afternoon drive , sedately thru the countryside, enjoying ourselves" :D people will think they,re seeing double :D cheers andy ps do you want another photo? |
thers definately gonna be 3 built within 11 miles and by another Andy too lol! mind saying that I really have to do mine a different colour to orange now! thanks again to Spud 69 as I havent stopped grinning all day either-cheers guys!
|
That is a smashing set of pictures Andy :)
A massive well done for reaching this stage of your build. spud69 turning up with his car must have made a great day even better Well done to both Andys. That photograph of the two cars together, just looks so right :) Going to be a memory that will last a lifetime  |
Thanks Ronnie,
myself & Turboporscheandy (thanks mate ) had just seconds before got my chassis off the build table & then Spud69 turns up :D it was perfect timing, we had all sorts of neighbours coming out of their houses to see what was going on to see mine alongside Spuds thinking that one day mine might look half as good is a very nice feeling & really spurs me on with my build, i think the neighbours finally understand why i,ve been in the garage for the last 11 weeks with the angry grinder, me shouting at the mig etc, seeing all sorts of bits going into the garage & now they see this  heres another photo from today the wife now finally believes that i,m not having an affair !!! well not with another woman at least :D cheers andy |
here,s another photo from today,
i really like this picture as its almost the skeleton & the full bodied version behind. :D its the before & after shot , could almost be 2 photos overlapped but its really 2 cars ( well 1 & a bit ) :D hope you all like the photos. cheers andy |
brilliant pictures mate. really good way to get motivated.
|
Cheers Ash, its just been a great day, Spud turning up totally unexpected was brill, it doesn,t get better than this without an engine in :D :D
the 2 cars look great together i think  how,s your build doing? cheers andy |
There were some very fast orange Westies at their Curborough club sprint yesterday. Perhaps the colour does make a difference? :-)
|
It was a nice day yesterday Andy, especially the drive out in the country after i left you. You need to get some padding for that beer crate though, wouldn't like to drive far on that.
|
glad to hear you had a nice drive after leaving my garage
thanks for coming over, you being there was the "icing on the cake" yeah i,ll try & get some proper seats for next time ;) tho i,m going for narrow ones, a great day, tho the garage clearout was not the highlight of the day i can tell you  cheers andy ps your car looks AND sounds great , the "other" Andy was beaming from ear to ear:cool: |
heres one more , trial fitting the bodywork, excuse the straps ( didn,t want it to fall off )
cheers andy |
Tickety Boo.......:D
|
Looks like you had a brilliant weekend mate, well done it looks awsome.

Nice Looking chassis andy.
Just noticed that you still have the diagonal brace in the engine bay infront of the steering column. If you are using the cvh engine I found that this brace gets in the way of the inlet manifold. Have a look at the attached pic to show what I did. Cheers Mark. |
yes thanks Mark, i got that part of the chassis welded in before i,d read the post about making it difficult to place the engine in :o , but then thought i,d leave it in until i,d completely finished the chassis to ensure it stayed true, so yes that bit will be coming out soon as will the bottom rail where the gearbox goes.
thanks for your kind words on my chassis, it actually feels like i,m building a car now instead of a steel jigsaw :D :D cheers andy |
I know what you mean. It actually looks like you are building a car rather than a climbing frame for the kids!!
Fabby's body work looks good. I will be using his stuff once I decide on a colour, and finance permitting. Keep up the good work. Cheers Mark |
:D You bin TANGO,D :D
ah, the kids have asked me to build them a go kart thingy  they said i,ve got the big go kart so they want a small one, lol kids eh??? Fabby,s bodywork is great, the rear tub just seems to sit on the chassis all on its own (clever stuff ) & top quality if i may say. andy |
Andy have a look at "the edge buggies" from Australia....luvvly beasties:D
|
Then there is this...www.hotbuggy.com I drove a CBR600 version which was geared like a crosser and what a giggle. They use Gixxer 1000's now thou... Oh and the red one if it still lives wears one of my seats:p
|
just had a look at the "edge " buggies, thats more or less what the kids want  the Sidewinder looks smart..............tho i don,t think i,d let the kids loose with a 650cc motor   :D but then again ???? lol.
andy |
Nooooooo use a big 2 stroke crosser motor:D I bought plans a few years ago but beggared if I know where they are:confused: The sidewinder is quite big but the plans show you how to make it all.
|
hmmmm shame you can,t put your fingers on the plans :D might be hatching a plan, as i,d like our 12yr old to have something like this, it would fit in back of my van when we could take it out for a blast down the beach
andy |

|
well thats what i,d be looking for, something that will fit in the back of my van so we can go somewhere to let the lad have some fun, as said the beach as nothing to run into  :D
andy |
Simples buy him a quad...
|
Hi Andy,
I know I have been pre-occupied sorting my career over the last few weeks so have not really been around to share all of your "Big Day" but rest assured. I know how important this day was, same as my first day of rolling chassis. Its great to see all the bits from the show finally in place. My big day is coming up soon, as I have a few weeks Gardening leave from the Construction Industry. I have decided to try to shoehorn that V6 into the chassis. Will keep you informed.... So far I have a mobile scaffold tower split into 2 towers, and an RSJ to make a "make shirt engine hoist" Just need the lifting tackle now! WELL DONE BUDDY! |
Cheers mate, yeah it was a good feeling getting the chassis out of the cramped garage for the first time  tho the clean up of the garage wasn,t so enjoyable , angle grinding dust gets everywhere  :D
good luck getting the V6 into such a small space, i was measuring my gearbox & engine today for readiness for trial fitting, but thats only a small 4cylinder, nothing like your V6  cheers andy |
ooooh v6`s sound niiiiiiiice have a nice howl to them! I had a Prove V6 24valve and it made lovely noises-kept going wrong but made a lovely sound all the same!well if folk can fit v8`s in these cars then a V6 should go!
