Question for Bonzo
Bonzo, trying to get my chassis ready for painting but cant decide where headlamp brackets go, how did you decide how far out your`s stuck?
Thanks Dennis |
Hi Dennis
The book states to suit lights & as I do not as yet have them, I decided to err on the side of caution ;) Much easier to cut a small amount off rather than try to add a piece in. I made the oval tube & cut it to 120mm Having an offcut of 47mm od pipe this was used I ended up with an overall length of 167mm Having fitted the front roadwheels 15" X 195 & turning lock to lock, plenty of clearance for a 6" or 7" headlamp unit. I hope this is of some help to you :) |
That`s great, I will follow your lead, off to the garage I go!

Use a bit of flat oval welded to top rail where the top shock mount is on the chassis...cut the oval tube to 95mm long then weld a piece of 2" diameter tube about 25" deep with a penny washer welded on top. Bolt yer lights to that and jobs a goodun as they say or simples if you are a meerkat!!!;)
|
Forgot to say cut one end of the oval tube to same angle the top rail is...think it's a 10degree cut this will have the brackets at right angle to centre line of the car.
|
Nice one Mark
More or less within those measurements then, About 20mm longer ;) Yes the angle of the cut was 10 degrees :) |
That was from memory as been awhile since properly made one for folk but somewhere near...I gusseted the bracket to top shock mount as well.
|
Thanks for that, whilst you`re on Mark, did you measure the bonnet bulge for me as regards how high the bulge is and how far back it starts to rise? Dennis
