ACTION NEEDED! Govt proposals re: IVA

Incase anyone has not seen this, it will help if as many people as possible write in with an objection to this:

https://www.gov.uk/government/consul...ity-and-safety

There is a draft regulation to require all kit cars to meet current MOT emissions standards at IVA - NOT the MOT standards that applied to an engine of that age. This will mean that you'll pretty much need fuel injection and a cat to pass IVA. It's the end of using carbs! I think it will also mean that some of the older fuel injection engines will be hard to get through too.

It's not clear when this would come in, but looks as though it could be as soon as May 2018.

Please do write in and object to this proposed change, which is point 10 in the consultation.

10. Are you content with our proposal to require kit cars to meet the latest MOT standards, removing the current rule where vehicles are tested to MOT standards according to the age of their engine?

The consultation period begins on Friday 2 February 2018 and runs until Friday 2 March 2018. Please ensure that your response reaches them before the closing date.

Please send consultation responses to: Robert Lloyd-Smith
Zone 1/33, Great Minster House

LONDON SW1P 4DR

Email to: ivs.consult@dft.gsi.gov.uk

According to Complete Kit Car they have " just received a call from the Department for Transport confirming that they will not proceed with the part of the emissions regulation proposals that affected kit cars. "

The DfT website has not yet been updated to reflect this yet (https://www.gov.uk/government/consul...ity-and-safety) but - as a Pinto builder! - fingers crossed this is correct!

My e-mail worked then ;)

Seriously though, I e-mailed the people listed as responsible and stated that the measure seriously penalised a minority of people whom did not pose a significant enough body to make any detrimental difference to the environment.

Sense has prevailed, we are a tiny minority that make little difference to the environment. We actually help it by recycling.
