Book Pedals

Having found that I bought an MT75 chassis (described as a type 9) I've now found that no standard off the shelf pedal box will fit the 30mm narrower footwell.

I never really liked the look of the book pedals, they don't look stiff enough to take the forces, and I'm already looking at needing to modify the design to something similar to the MX5 design for the hydraulic clutch on my gearbox.

My line of thought so far is larger plates for the pedal mounts running both further up and down the bulkhead, and welding the assembly into the chassis. I'm also going to put in a second master cylinder with fixed brake balance. 5mm thick on all pedal verticals.

Has anybody got any suggestions for other improvements that could be made?

Check out the modified pedal box by one of the other builders off the forum. I can't remember his name, but he uses 25mm box section as pedals. It looks really sweet. If his name comes to mind, I will post it up on here.

Just remembered. It's Sylvian (voucht). Check out his posts and you will come across his downloadable plans.

Or use 5mm instead of 3mm.

Sylvains design is really good he has spent a lot of time improving this part of the build

Thank you for relying the info my friends :)

Dave,
If you want, the plans for my modified pedal box are available for free download here:

The reasons of why and how I modified the book's pedal box are explained at the beginning of the document.

The threads on my build blog are here:

and here:

I remember that Arfon made some improvement on the crush-tubes positions, you can check with him if you are interested.

Now, if you want to fit a double master/cylinder, you can adapt the design to fit a brake bias balance bar through the 25mm square section pedal shaft, I don't see any problem to that. But if you have the money, you can make it easier, and buy an OBP pedal box (kit-car model). They are directly designed to fit a double M/C, and are 240mm wide. I had some OBP pedal boxes in my hands, as the company I'm working for in France sells them, and I can say they look to be pretty well constructed.

Good luck!

Thanks, the obp boxes were my original plan, but the mt75 chassis is only 211 wide in the drivers footwell.

Hi Dave,

If you trawl through my photo bucket in the attachment in my signature you will see what I have done for my pedal box which is Sylvains design.
The only real alteration is that on the first pedal I made the cutter started to break through the wall of the box section so all I did was to to move the center of the hole inboard by the wall thickness of the material
