ignition system

what ford ignition system is this taken from been trying to work it out |
It looks like a mash of a few parts. I think it looks like an edis 4 module and coil pack of an early Zetec Escort..... although I welcome a more learned answer :D
Its hardly a "Megajolt System" as it has no megajolt controller or HT leads and judging by the fact there is no other plugs in the loom, it never was a megajolt system. I imagine all this will do it allow the engine to start and run a limp home mode I.E. not over 2000 rpm. |
will the edis 4 run standalone without a controller?
|
Looks like a module from an OHV escort/Fiesta, an ESC2 module, this will run a coilpack it just needs its own 12v supplies & earths and an input from a crank sensor. Wiring diagrams are easily available on the net, I have heard of folk running Zetecs from this set up, of course this is for spark only, it will not run fuel injection at all, you would need carbs. it does work loads of people have done it this way as you said loads of info on the web like zetec inside and zetec tiger (i think ) or tiger cat inside ...... the only difference would be if this set was going on a zetec then the trigger wheel wont be used as the zetec triggers the pickup via its flywheel that set up would work on say a cvh or pinto the hardest bit would be to mount that trigger wheel on the front pulley ( probably easier just to buy a new trigger wheel from ahem .......trigger wheels cheers les g |
As per other posts
It looks to be a mixture of different components Ford EDIS 4 modue Vauxhall ESC module & coilpack I believe that the ESC module is the Vauxhall equivalent of the Ford EDIS system. I have no idea of how the two would manage to work side by side :confused: The Ford EDIS module will run at 10 degrees BTC without an input signal from elsewhere This is more of a limp home feature of the system & would not run the engine for peak perfomance without a signal from the likes of a Megajolt or the likes. As said in other posts. Spark only, you'll need carbs. Personally I would stick with Megajolt & EDIS if you want to run carbs |

it is a ford part bonzo very similar to edis 4 and no need for a controller |

That should all work fine together in that case. Personally I prefer the mapable option that Megajolt & the likes provide. :) I have the wiring diagrams for the EDIS set up if you need them ;) |
