Front Upper Wishbone Jig
 

has any one had any problems with this jig? i have made it to the book dimensions, but it seems to be 6mm short, as to get the dimensions on the wishbone right, the 30mm diameter piece would come to the back of the 6mm plates not the front, am i being stupid? :o

i know you have said you have made the jig to the book dimensions but as the figure of 6mm seems to be the issue are you sure you have placed the 2 stand plates 5mm in from the edge at the 82degree angle ? as this maybe where the 6mm problem is coming from.

i will have to recheck it tomorrow as its at work, but im sure i have it as it should be, the only thing i can think of is i have used a piece of 30mm box instead of 25.

it,ll be interesting to find the cause, do you HAVE 30mm box tube in your workshop?
my thoughts were the 5mm of the 2 upright plates plus the lean angle of 82 degree,s would create a 6mm error if its placed incorrectly on the jig.

we have loads of different sizes at work ;) lol all to heavy walled for the chassis, but perfect for jigs etc. maybe i used a bit of that instead.
i set the plates 5mm in then tacked them on and tapped them over to 82 degrees, it is 5mm to the back edge of those plates isnt it...

yes it is 5mm from the edge,
just thought of another poss reason.... those plates need to be 6mm thick, otherwise the dimensions would be wrong unless you compensated for a different thickness of the plates:eek:

i wouldnt worry too much. you have loads of adjustment on the upper ball joint so if its a mm out you can just ake it up with the ball joint

any news on what the problem was with the jig?

hi andy, after checking and rechecking everything it all seems to be as it should be, just me being dumb i think :o i used 25x5mm flat instead of the
6mm plate, and didnt allow for it,
now i have finished making the jigs, im ready to start making wishbones :eek:

at least you got it sorted out, nice one, get the bones made & you,ll soon have a rolling chassis:cool:
