MX-5 Donor What did everyone else keep?

Hey all,

Just before i start stripping the MX5 just wondered what everyone else kept?

Been offered a quick removal by an MX5 breaker for the car, but i want to make sure I've got everything before giving him the thumbs up.

Engine and sensors/ancilliaries (except for power steering and aircon pumps)
Exhaust manifold and first section of exhaust
Gearbox
Propshaft
Diff
Driveshafts
Front and rear uprights
front and rear calipers
Clutch and brake master cylinders
Handbrake lever and cables
Loom + ECU
Cluster
steering wheel, column, and linkages
Airbox and intake pipes
Wheels
Lots of nuts and bolts
Probably some other stuff I've forgotton about too!

It's worth stripping off as much extra stuff as you can, as what you don't use you can flog on ebay/forums.

I kept the pedal assembly too, hoping to reuse but may not be able to. As John says take off as much as you can. If your on a budget you can make a lot back selling bits.

Blimey, I don't think I've ever inspired anyone before! I do feel quite proud, lol :D
Just don't blame me if it all goes tits up!

Well the MX-5 is on Ebay with a few bits sold already, roof, mirrors etc. Bringing down the buying cost already! Hopefully will break even on buying it or make a profit!

You'll easily get back the £375 you paid for the donor.
If you don't buy anything else for a while you might even go into negative build cost, albeit very briefly :D

as of today sub £300 mark!

If I break even or go into profit I'm buying a new welder!

Dare I ask what anyone else would recommend? I've currently got a Clarke 110E but its getting a bit tired now bless it.....

I'm assuming we dont need to keep the wishbones either as we have to fabricate new ones?

Did anyone keep the plastic cowling around the steering column?

CTWV50 27th July 2011 11:26 AM

Yep IVA man doesn't want any sharp edges even behind the steering wheel.
