The nose cone took some time as I made that from foam and 3mm MDF then coved in car body filler. I kept changing the shape as it was looking too much like the original one on my car. The bonnet and scuttle are made from MDF. The scuttle a made last Friday afternoon as it a simple piece it didn’t take long. I will start making the mould in the Xmas holidays which I looking for would to doing. |
Frank, is it possible you place more pictures? i would like to make my scuttle and hood myself but do not know where to start. I believe more people like to see more pictures.:D
|
That looks really nice Frankie, is it just the pics or does the scuttle look taller than usual. If so it must be a beast you are planning for the car.
Do you fancy helping with the single seater plugs, i'm trying to get on here but my hands are frozen solid......... AndyH |
Hi Andrew
The scuttle is the same size as the one on my car gave or take a couple of millimetres, The body work on my car came from Martin Keen. I have tried not to make it look the same. Do you have a spray booth at your work shop to but finish on the bucks? The high build primer that I have used covers all like a tight skin. I am very pleased with the finish and will give then two coats of lacquer be for polishing. Could you post some pics of the single seater in progress. |
I would love to post some pics, nearly there now....
Don't have a spray both as we have an auto finisher with a booth in the unit straight across. He is going to prime and laquer them for me. It must be just the camera angle for the scuttle. Cheers....AndrewH |
Frankieboy
How have you found the time do such great work......... last i heard you was still buzzing around like a loony with a silly smile on your face cheers les g |
Keep us posted with pictures on your progress Frank :)
Tis refreshing to see some results of some home fabricated GRP work  |

I am currently making the side panels. These panels will come up to the nose cone and be rounded at the bottom to give a smoother look. I did this with the alley on my car. A friend is making plaster cast of the nose, bonnet, and scuttle. The first positives will be with these as it cheaper and easy to fine tune and once happy with the look will make the fibreglass moulds for production. I will post some photos soon. |
HI All
As the weather has got better I have been able to do some work on the moulds for the bonnet and nose cone. Will be making the first positive next week. |
Been looking forward to your next post Frank  :)
Boy those are looking well sturdy ..... Definately ain't going to flex when you lay them up :) Do you have to get some paint on those prior to polishing & waxing ? Can't wait to see the end result mate  |

The plaster moulds very smooth but not as good as gel and fibreglass. I will be spraying the first positives and tweaking them to make them perfect. From them I will make fibreglass moulds. |
looking really nice Frankie,
I,ve seen the work that Spud is putting into the moulds for the Single seater & so can really appreciate the work & time you have put into your moulds, nice work, and look forward to seeing the finished panels. cheers andy |
Sounds like a good plan to me Frank :)
Well done on your progress, those look like they have come out a treat  :) |
HI All
Just a up-date on my panels. I have taken them from the moulds today and I’m very pleased with the results.:D The bonnet and scuttle match well and I will not need to have edging trim on the bonnet. |
WOW, lookin' pretty good there Frankie boy! I take my hat off to anyone who can do GRP work, I made a bootlid in GRP last year for my camper conversion, it cost me about a hundred quid and took about a hundred hours to turn it into something even vaguely resembling acceptable and that was just a five foot by three foot flat panel with a supporting frame!
D. |
WOW indeed
That looks fantastic Frankie, well done that man  cheers andy |
That's looking good Frankie, just need plenty of hours with wet and dry down to 2000 grit then a good buff up with G3 then G10 compound it will really get them shining.
Well Done.....AndyH |
Brilliant stuff there Frank :)
They all look to fit together real nice, you must be well pleased with what you have achieved. :) Keep us posted on your progress ....... I stand in awe mate :) |

Thanks. I am very Pleased with the fit. I’m not leaving them in gel coat so I have been rubbing them back to prime and paint in the yellow and my be some lines painted in and clear coat over that. |
