Mercedes 190 radiator problem.

Sorry to trouble you all, but after reading the posts on here, I have bought a mercedes 190 radiator. The one I have bought is for the w210 car, and it is huge ! What rad are the merc boys using please ? I think that I may have got my wires crossed somewhere ?

sounds like you have a a/c car one
you need the small type!
its is fitted to petrol non a/c manual 190's 1.8-2.3 >93
core size is somthing like 300x340x50mm
auto box ones are the same but have a atf cooling loop

new ones are inexpensive

Thanks ever so much. I knew that I wanted a merc one straight away, as it was purpose built for the big engined mercedes, so it was perfect for my mx5 1.8. I was worried that a polo or Clio radiator would be a little restricted. I will get this one swapped over. It looks like it has an oil cooler built in, by the look of the additional fittings.

Incidentally the Polo rad seems fine on the MX5 engine (at least on the 1.6).
I spent a lot of time sitting in traffic this summer and didn't experience any cooling issues.

Yes it does (gearbox/transmission oil cooling). You don't need to blank them to use the radiator, but I did, so I will not collect craps in it. 2 x M16x1,50 caps will do the job.

It might be worth doing a coolant reroute, that's what I'm planning to do in conjunction with a Polo rad. I just need to figure out the best way to do the fan switch.

I did two: the VW thermo switch in the rad (£3-4) and fan relay signal from the ECU, both driving the same relay.

And, yes, the Polo rad seemed sufficient for a 2l Zetec during summer.
