Roadster Forum To Close

"It is with great sadness that Haynes have decided to close this forum on November 30th 2016. The decision was taken after careful consideration of the ongoing operation and administration of the forum. Haynes would like to thank all members and, in particular, the administrators for their time and effort in making this forum such a success."

Haynes have seen the response by members to the closing of their forum and would like to help the forum maintain its presence.

We're considering the various options open to us, including continuing to maintain this forum. Whatever the final outcome, Haynes will do their best to ensure the valuable information on this site remains available. Your patience in this will be much appreciated.

In view this I'm closing this thread and Haynes will endeavour to keep the forum well informed of where things go from here.

Yes I do Chris, assuming your using the same name your account is there, it was activated on the 9th of September. Let me know if your having issues.

Badger 17th November 2016 05:15 PM

Probably a long shot, but is there any likelihood of the threads being saved in some manner? There's a lot of bloody good info on here.

Definitely. When I have a question or think of something regarding my build the answer is nearly always on here. Also I enjoy looking through the old build threads.
It would be such a shame for it all to dissappear.
Time for me to sign up to Roadster builders!

Ricky 17th November 2016 07:14 PM

WHAT!!!! YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!!!! What's up with that what about all the info on here I'm sure there are a lot of people that use this info. Really disappointed

Ricky 17th November 2016 07:22 PM

Any chance you can reset my password for roadster bullders, not been on in a while and forgot my username and password. I can't reset it without my username, my email address it will have been registered under is: d_fowler_f1@hotmail.com and I though the user name was the same as this.. Cheers

Ianr 17th November 2016 08:42 PM

VERY disappointed. Why? This has been - and would continue to be a wonderful resource for Haynes last two manuals about building a sevenesque car. There should be a third book using Mazda components to update the build - Phil @ Talon? maybe? - a really great pity to close this resource :-(

I have emailed you a new temporary password, let me know if you have any more issues.

vmax1974 17th November 2016 09:05 PM

Whilst it is a shame that the forum is closing its not really a supprise the book has been out of print for a few years now so haynes have no reason to continue to use their resources when it does not benefit them in any way

Haynes were given plans and book alterations for the mx5 base however they chose not to do anything with them for whatever reason probably the same reason the single seater book was scrapped once the car was built and the book was finished

Haynes are first and formost a business and using resources to keep a few people happy in their hobby just doesn't make sound financial sense

I saw this coming a few months ago i am sure someone with some xomputer savy will be able to backup all the information on here

Join roadster builders and post as much useful information as you can before the bubble bursts and its all lost forever

The V8 Files 17th November 2016 09:16 PM

Just to add to Dave's words above, everyone is welcome copy their build threads over from here to roadster builders and then carry on with them there, let try and build a new resource for the next generation of builders.

Unless you back them up by printing them out or converting them to pdf private messages like the rest of the information on here will be lost forever so my advice is use the features in your inbox and back them up

SteveH1 17th November 2016 09:27 PM

Is ther no way it can be taken over by someone

I love your optimism Ian but a book written by me would be 10 pages of technical drawings as a pic says a thousand words...... :D

The V8 Files 17th November 2016 09:33 PM

I am making enquiries to see about the possibility of Haynes releasing the data but who knows if they will be willing.

Hi,
There is an easy way to save them.
- go in your inbox
- on the right bottom corner, you have a menu "Move to folder..." and the "Go" button
- select all your messages (tick the boxes on the far right of the messages)
- unroll the menu, and you have saving options (download as XML, CVS, TEXT)
- chose "download as Text"
- click on the go "Go" button just next to the menu
- all your received email will be saved in a .txt file
- do the same with your "sent items" to save them the same way on a different file : click on "Edit Folder" in the left menu, and "sent items" in the main window, and repeat the operation as you did for the inbox)

Hope that will help :)

To The Admin-please Read This And Help Us

Now, I would like to ask the admins of the Haynes Forum : how can you give us all the complete forum to be backed up on a new website of our choice. Can we transfer it to another domain name hosted by one of us? I could really take car of this and host the forum on a personal website with public access. This Forum and all the informations it holds can not be lost for ever: it is just inconceivable to me.

There should be a way to do this and back the forum up and host it somewhere else.

Please, if some of you have the necessary knowledge to help me transferring the forum to a website we will continue to maintain, contact me. We just can't let this forum be lost forever.

Clock is ticking guys, there is just 2 weeks left to do this.

Thanks.

Someone would need shell access to do it properly but I believe, because it's still an old version, the database can be backed up under the ,maintenance menu that full admins 'should' be able to se. The files would still need to be copied so root server access would also be needed. With the right access it's a reletively easy task but it all depends if Haynes will give anyone access.

Probably not best to advertise and I'd advise bandwidth throttling, if too many people do this at the same time there is a risk they will close it early spoiling it for us all :)

CTWV50 18th November 2016 08:06 AM

bottom right corner of every screen there is an archive link. hmmm?

I sucked down the MI6 site last christmas to solve one of their Christmas quiz questions. The forum isn't that big size wise just a lot of small files. I doubt anyone at haynes is reading this forum.

100% agree with you on that one

CTWV50 18th November 2016 09:20 AM

Ok I have the site. it's working like a kind of archive without the forum software. I'll update the backup up until the day of closure. If it they don't leave an archive up I'll sick it up on a one of my other domains so it can be accessed in read only mode. Maybe locost could host the archive. Anyway, it's safe.
