Mx5 Handbrake

Good evening all.

Can any one tell me how far up the tunnel (from the rear) they have mounted handbrake so I can use standard cables I haven't fitted callipers yet as they are at my parents (running out of storage) so just trying to get a rough idea and make some mounts

Also have people mounted them more to n/s or o/s or bang in the middle?

Hi I used std rear cables that came to a bracket in the normal position as per book but big but depending on where your lever is going depends how you set the bracket side to side to get as even a pull as you can
My lever is close to the drivers side of the tunnel so my bracket is towards the drivers side
Now the offside cable goes to the near side of the bracket and vice Verda I made a couple of p clips to secure to the edge of the diff mounting plates also bent the bracket on the calliper back to get cable clearance
Then shortened the front cable to suit distance from balance bar to handbrake
I think there are some pictures in my build thread "progress so far" if suck I will take some more pics if you need

I know it sounds daft but really think where to put your handbrake
Mine is on the drivers side of the tunnel and set so that when off the lever is as horizontal as possible it works out quite nicely for me as my left arm is beyond it for gearchanges and support
Again if you look through my build pictures you will see it in the finished pics
Good luck

Hi Gary

Cheers for info funny enough I had already gone through your build diary . How did you shorten front cable? Am I right in thinking iva man doesn't like bulldog clips .

My iva man was fine and even helped redo my cable :)
I left the adjuster end and then took the cable trough the balance bar and used cable clamps 3 small ones
I didn't strip the plastic covering and the cable pulled so iva man Campbell and me stripped the coating to the bare wire and reclamped and it passed and been fine ever since
I don't know how any other tester would be, but once measured you could take the cable and balance bar and get it swaged together at a local blacksmiths

Morning Gary

Interesting about bulldog clips I thought they were a no no I don't know if anybody else has used them,

What willl do is make the mounts up so I can position it at a later date when I get callipers on I will focus at mounting fuel tank next weekend unless I can escape for a few hours in the evening after work,
Trying to do other bits and bobs im waiting for body work so I can get engine steering column rad etc mounted.
