Mx5 engine mounts

hi
I'm building an mx5 roadster with my son , this weekend we put in the engine and made some dummy mounts, but do the mounts really need to be made out of 5mm steel ? It just seems rather thick !

With the forces that come from the engine twisting the mounts I would stick with 5mm bettersafe than sorry

Yes they do!
I accidentally made mine out of 3mm and they lasted a couple of thousand miles before one failed.

Luckily I noticed before the tear got all the way to the end and my engine fell out!

Ok thanks - I will make them out of 5mm in the morning :)
I'm trying to make the sump as high as I can so will be time consuming I think :) :)

if trying to raise the sump watch out for bonnet clearance, I used a saturn wide scoop bonnet and still have a good bit of underhang and I even tweaked the engine slightly off center.
Its the plenum and throttle body that caused the issue
