1.8CVH doner car for sale

Well i picked up the sierra from the wifes grandad today

1991 1.8cvh, type 9 gearbox 76000miles he has owned it for last 13 years

£250ono if anyone is interested

Good bits :)

Taxed until end of month

Engine is nice and quiet and drives very well

Gearbox feels as it should

No whining or noises from the diff

Brand new battery

New radiator (worth selling on)

Brakes work fine

Bad bits :o

Just out of mot

Oil leak around sump (sump would need shortening anyway and a new gasket would cure the leak once in a roadster so not a major problem) sump bolts tightened up as they were almost loose, probably cured leak

Fuel line is corroded where it bends up into the engine bay and is leaking a little fuel (this wouldnt matter as wont be used on the roadster but is a problem in the meantime if you want to drive it long distance)i have repaired the fuel line with a new copper one so the car is completely safe to drive

Here are a couple of pics of the car

I have been out this morning and replaced the leaky fuel line with a new copper one so its completely safe to drive now with no leaks :)

I also cleaned the oil off around the sump only to find all the sump bolts were barely finger tight!

So a quick torque up of the bolts and thats probably sorted the oil weap from the sump gasket too

That's the nicest car you've had outside your house to date Mark.....:D Only joking of course.

You kept that one quiet, surprised you haven't had your hand snapped off yet. I may have it if it doesn't go quick....;)

I thought it would go pretty quick but no interest as yet

Being that sierras are becoming very scarce now i thought it would be snapped up straight away.

It took me ages to find mine

If it doesn't go I'm sure we can come to some sort of arrangement if you want it ;)

If you don't want it i will just take the diff and gearbox as spares for mine and weigh the rest in! which would be a shame, i would like to see it turn into another roadster :)

So is it MOT'd?

Could be interested, maybeeee..

New toy ???

Shame it's not MOT'd, could have got it over here and then used the good sierra bits on the XR4x4 and a few bits on the Roadster and flogged the rest.

Oooo, the 2.5 Straight 6 is a fantastic sounding engine.

I'd be tempted Mark if I had somewhere to strip it. I already have my donor parts, but it's a pinto engine and would prefer a cvh (to make the necessary swap easier post IVA)
I'll have a think about it, but if you decide to sell just the engine I'd probably be interested.

If nobody wants the full car in the next week im just keeping gearbox and diff so you can have the engine at a very good price

twinturbo 21st November 2010 06:09 PM

If you strip then I would be interested in various parts of the interior ( dash, headlining, boot carpet ) for the right price and if the condition is good :)

I am probably over there on the 4th at Saturn.

No probs i think it may be a bit tatty though, dont think the interior or boot has been cleaned, ever :D the head lining/boot carpet may be ok after a clean

You can have them if i strip it

JHewitt 23rd November 2010 01:00 PM

toooo far

I would have it for that price, but a bit too far away for me sadly.:(
Very surprised you have had no takers???

If you end up breaking it can I have dibs on the shaft that links the steering column to the rack; and master cylinder?

Yeah no bother, its looking like im gonna be stripping it at the moment

I have a shortened cvh sump and pick up pipe in really good order with no leaks to sell too and a clutch kit that only got use from my iva pass in may to september when the engine died!

twinturbo 23rd November 2010 05:55 PM

Defo looks like we will be over at Saturn on the 4th..

rapidtornado 23rd November 2010 09:42 PM

Can't belive you can't find a buyer?!?!? Amazes me when I'm looking I have to hunt down for months and then take second best option on a dohc, I would bitten your hand and arm off for this car at 250 squid... bummer!

twinturbo 24th November 2010 09:46 AM

Lack of MOT means transport needs to be arranged, I paid £150 just to get a granada from Newcastle to Carlisle.

That all bumps up the cost.

Im quite shocked i couldnt sell it complete, even without an mot

I only got it as i thought it would be a good help to another roadster builder and obviously make a small profit for myself ;)

Its not all bad news though, i am stripping it saturday got a buyer for engine, gearbox, front uprights/brakes, full rear end, logbook and vin plates to enable them to get an age related plate

Then another buyer for the steering column and cowls

Then someone else possibly wants the master cylinder but waiting for them to confirm

Oh yeah and TT may want a couple of bits if they are any good

So the old girl will live on in a few different roadsters rather than going straight to the big scrapyard in the sky :D

Hi Mark,

Havent been on the forum for a few days and ive just seen your post, is the car still up for grabs? i have been on the look out for a 1.8CVH doner for a while so this looks ideal. Is the car to be collected from Billingham? I assume the car will drive onto a trailer ok and is running? What were the issues with getting the MOT? Anything that would affect IVA?

Thanks

James

Hi James

I had a pm from the main buyer of all the running gear when he saw your post and he said he understands that i would prefer to sell it whole and not have to strip it and sell it in bits, so you are in luck! it would need collecting from billingham.

The car failed its mot on corrosion of the chassis underneath and a leaking fuel line, i have fixed the fuel line so it drives safely but the mot failure was down to rot mainly, so nothing that would affect iva

All the running gear and engine is spot on though and the engine is nice and smooth so everything that you need for the roadster perfectly useable

It will drive up onto a trailer no bother, i drove it 20miles with no probs

Let me know if you are interested asap as i have put people on hold who were getting parts of it, but if you want it, i will sell it whole

I have sent you my mobile no via pm if you want to ring me
