Front Suspension Brackets
 

I've made a jig for the front lower suspension brackets.
The dimension in the book is 494 for the spacing between holes across the width of the chassis.
With this spacing and the correct height off the build board the brackets dont' touch the front frame uprights by a few mm either side.
Anyone else had this problem?
I could bring the brackets in a few mm either side (Say 490mm spacing) so they sit flush with the front frame uprights. That way the track width at the front of the car will just be reduced a couple of mm both sides, no real issue.

Just curious if others have had the same problem, the front frame was pre built so hoping quite accurate.

We've all had this problem! Think it may be a book error. Most people have put metal packers behind the bracket, then welded the whole lot up.

Yep had that problem to. Just pack the gap and weld it all up.

How much of a gap where people getting?
I can only see it affecting the track width and possibly a minor change to the bumpsteer if I move the rear most font bracket in to suit. The top wishbone is adjustable so wouldn't cause any issues.

Or just pack the gap, the gap in smaller (2-3mm) on the rear edge of the bracket and opens up a mm or two (4-5mm) as you come to the front edge of the upright.

I think 2-3mm per sides has been mentioned before.

As others above have said, its a common problem that alot of builders have come up against, my own build too.

I,m not sure if its a book error or a "foible" ( is there such a word :confused: ) of CAD, that is created from the dimensions of the original chassis design/dimensions.

I,m no CAD person but on a positive note, if a builder has this situation arise in their own build, it shows that the chassis has been cut & welded together very accurately & has been built in total accordance of the book instructions, not just on base rails but all angles throughtout the chassis.

Most builders find that a 2mm or 3mm spacer is required behind the wishbone brackets so that the spacing matches the suspension bracket jigs as per book instructions.
My own chassis required 2mm spacers .

It would be nice to know what the correct solution is based on the design.
Has Chris ever expressed an opinion as looking at the book pictures carefully there don't seem to be any spacers.
I think the 494 dimension is probably wrong.
