Alarm System

I am going to fit an alarm system to my car and now is an ideal time to get to all of the wiring!

But did I read somewhere that it has to be certified for the IVA?

Cos if it does i may aswell leave it until after!

IF it's one of the means of vehicle imobalisation then yes.

what sensors are you intending on using?

TT

it's a dual zone microwave jobbie that i once had on my convertible

I just won't link up the imobaliser bit till after the iva in that case:)

You can still have the imobaliser but it will not count as one of the required methods.

What are the normal ones you would have apart from steering lock?

Hi James,

The normal ones are ignition key and steering lock (it might be the same key, but counts as two functions as it locks the column, and disables the car electrically).

The IVA manual says that alarms are optional, but if fitted MUST be accompanied by evidence of compliance (See section 13B Anti–Theft / Alarm).

So you might have to leave it off until after IVA.
You might get away with routing the wiring now, but not fitting the actual alarm/sensors.
