Rear wheel bearing seals
2 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I just cleaned some parts from the donor by electrolyse, it is very efficient, almost “magic”. I removed the seals and bearing from the rear wheel hub carrier. RH and LH parts are exactly the same. Attachment 1538 But one of them has an odd seal. It is mostly done of a metal ring, instead of being all rubber with metal ring inside as the other ones. Attachment 1539 Can anyone tell me if this is normal, or what is the reason why one of the 4 seals is different from the 3 others? Thank you by advance for your help. |
my orignal ford hubs had metal cage seals and my new ones where rubber coated
works the same just a bit cheaper to make rubber coated ones |
Ok old version and new version so. So I'm going to order 4 new ones in rubber.
Thank you for the info Baz :) |
get a wheel bearing kit it will have new hub nut (dont re use old nylocs!), new seals and new bearings
my ones where not expensive |
My bearings were fine, so I just got new seals (you need 6 of them for the whole car -- the front ones are the same size), and new nuts.

The Sierra Haynes manual says that the older model Sierras had the all rubber seals fitted, they were replaced with the metal shelled ones later in the production. The manual specifically advises replacing the rubber type with metal ones... |
