if you have somthing like FoCom or a vcm+software you could get into non obd2 stuff like pats codeing etc.
i do hear there is also a clone of a focom interface now  goes under the name of ford-vcm obd

For Ford ( and Later Jag Landrover)
FDS2000 was replaced by WDS, then IDS and it's now SDD(including legacy IDS)

Connection on IDS was via VCM but has been replaced by Mongoose.

I have a cheap cloan Goose for my Jaguar, but have not seen the same available for Ford and not sure that simply using the Ford version of SDD/IDS would work with the lead.

I have seen £30 VCM cloans on ebay that claim to code pats but you have to buy credits on a website to get "anti-codes" to get into the key programming mode ( depends on model I guess )

I don't belive you can update software on the ECU with the cheap version and need the genuine pro version (£500) and a Subscription to Topix to get the files and updates.

In any event all you can do is load manufacturer released updates and not tweak the MAP.

You can add/delete keys and remotes though.

Just added the pin outs for the black top Mondeo.

Great progress Shortie. get them pin outs posted upand add to the database.

Over the pond they are big on playing with these instead of aftermarket ecu's.

Mapping one of these is a case of rescaling the maf and injectors.

I will get the pinouts up sometime this week.
Most of what you said twinturbo was straight over my head. As I don't really know anything about remapping, but I am picking up quite a bit considering how little time I have spent playing with the ecu and wiring. I didn't have a clue before starting but it does all start to make sense.

I would probably be happy with the power of the standard engine but I was just thinking that if modifications are needed on both the inlet and exhaust, it would need remapping to run "efficiently" (is that the word i'm looking for??)

baz-r 30th April 2013 05:23 PM

for what you would spend and the hassle of it all i would say you either go all orignal with std parts or use an aftermarket ecu with what ever you want.

its great if you have matched keys and all the parts direct form a doner but if your keys are missing as well as a few parts and/or your looking at tuning up then ditch it all and run programable.

Anyone have any advice on cutting down the original loom?
I have the loom and fuse box lay out on the table and have started removing all the protective cover and clips.
I think I have all the engine sensors labeled up but just a bit worried incase I remove connections that are actually needed.

big_wasa 15th June 2013 09:30 AM

How's progress ?

Shorty 16th June 2013 02:11 PM

Not done anything with the wiring yet. I'm busy mounting engine at the moment so might try connecting it all up and starting once engine is in. This should make it more clear on all the wiring that can be removed.

Shorty 18th February 2014 08:41 PM

Here is the main connector that connects the engine wiring harness to the car.
I think I've identified the correct connector from a focus wiring diagram booklet but cant seem to find where all these wires connect to.
Any ideas?
