2.0 Zetec toType 9
 

Hi I am looking for some help can someone let me know what I need to match a 2.0 zetec to a type 9 gearbox such as what flywheel/clutch combo and what starter would be required and from which models they come from.The engine I have is a blacktop.Thanks Aidan

as far as i know there is more than one way of doing it a birdy told me the other day a 1.8 cvh flywheel reamed out to take zetec bolts fits and is light the down side is no trigger teeth so a toothed wheel needs fitting tho dont quote me on this it could just be a myth

zetec was a devlopement of the cvh tho

i have read a few guides and all say slightly diffrent parts are required
i think mtech had a thing on thair website

Burton Power do a fly wheel for zetec to type 9 to take standard sierra clutch. It has holes for the crank sensor. You can ues the starter form 1.8 CHV. NOT the cheapest options but makes it easy.

Hi Ronnie mainly what I am wondering what models do I get the parts from ie.do all the parts have to come off

Standard 1.8 zetec flywheel.
Mondeo 1.8 clutch plate and cover
Ct133 release bearing
Sierra DOHC or CVH starter with some of the ali ribs trimmed off the sump where it fits.

Done to death now, have a look through my blog, that may give you soem idea's.

Depend's on your budget realy.

Being as I am a true locoster at heart .... I would head down to my local breakers, get down n dirty & strip the bejesus out of a 1.8 silvertop Escort ( From K to about R reg )

I would have the, clutch, flywheel, alloy sump & engine sandwich plate. At my local yard I would expect to pay about £15-£20 for that lot.

The big downside is the time & effort it will take you to remove the gearbox :(

Flywheel will be a direct fit.

Clutch cover can be re-used if still servicable.
You'll then need to source a clutch friction plate with a 1" 23 spline centre & a CCT133 release bearing.

The sandwich plate can be altered to suit the type 9 box ( Starter on the other side )

If you don't mind the engine sitting a little higher in the engine bay, the sump could be used, as is.
Failing that it needs to be shortened by about 25 - 30 mm.

A 1.8 CVH starter motor will be needed .... Some say that the 2 litre DOHC Sierra one fits but I do not know this for sure !!??
Ebay for the starter or a recon one from a motor factor .... If going the recon route .... save the Escort one & give the facor that one as the exchange unit, they'll not know the difference ;)

I believe the water pump on the 2 litre turns the wrong way ( Due to belt set up ) .... May be worth grabbing the 1.8 Escort one as this is the one you will need.

Hey presto, you should have all you need to fit the type 9 box on to a 2 litre Blacktop Zetec engine :cool:

Have looked at your blog and galleries but theres not much on how you made the clutch system work.

I've tried your combination listed above but couldn't get it to work and ended up machining the flywheel to take Pinto clutch.

How did you get round the release arm hitting the end of the opening in the bellhousing ? Did you cut and shut the release arm and just let the bearing run partly off the first motion shaft cover?

How much clutch slip do you get with 81/2 inch clutch on the ST 170?

I have a 1.8 flywheel with a 1.8 Mondeo clutch, all mated together with what I bought at the time being a Capri release bearing. Turns out to be the CCT133

Standard type 9 release arm which sits nice and doesn't clout anything...

As far as clutch slip goes, not seen any yet. With the ST engine I am prepared for either the clutch to complain or the gearbox to give up, but its all holding up well atm.

This is the same setup I had with my original 1.8 zetec and it works well on my mates MK which has had both 1.8 and 2.0 zetecs in it.
