weld inspection at iva

Just wondering how thoroughly welds are inspected at the test? should i be keeping photographs of hidden welds and do all welds that don't look "pretty" need to be completely re done?

They look at the welds as part of the general construction if they are not up to scratch then there is no reason why they can't fail it. If a weld is crap why wouldn't you redo it? If a weld goes when you are pushing on which is pretty likely in a 7 then chances are you will be a gonner

I photographed the seat belt plates, to show they are fully welded, as they are very difficult to see with all the panels on. That was pretty much it. They do look at the welding as part of the general construction as I was complimented on my tig welding :D

One thing they look at very closely are the welds to the steering column extension, make sure they look good and are well penetrated. You could cut 2 slits in the tube and weld along them to give a good hold. Some inspectors may seem hard going but it's all for your own safety at the end of the day and gives you the much needed confidence in your build after you've got through it.

Cheers guys. I'll take some pics of important welds that won't be visible like the seat belt plates
