hi there peps.

i have start my build slowly, and i am getting there still making all plates and wishbones. i have got 2 donor cars both which are sierras 1 is G reg with a 1.8 engine (cvh i think) and i have also got a K reg 2l which would be the best engine to use out of the 2????? cheers:)

The 2.0 Twincam, only issue is the plenum ( assuming it's EFI ) and the sump. But it's been sorted before.

1.8's fine too though. and an easier install.

Hello, nice to see another builder on the forum.....

If it was me i would go with the 1.8 cvh every time, TT will know but i dont think they did a G reg cvh - is it not a Pinto.

With the CVH though you will have an easier install and put it on bike carbs and you will nearly match the power of the 2.0l (110 bhp). The CVH doesn't like to take a lot of abuse, the 2.0l is a lot stronger, but the CVH is an easy upgrade to a zetec (170 bhp) later on. Will still pass IVA emissions with bike carbs on to.

1.8 CVH was introduced in 88 IIRC on an F plate.

Stock EFI 2.0 DOHC is 125BHP on standard Exhaust and Air Filter.

which engine

hi been toying with the idea of building 1 over the past few months and when the nights started to draw in it gave me something to do. but i will be doing most of it at work in there time if i can get away with it.

do you know where i can get a new sump so i can make mods to it or one that has been done for the 1.8 cvh???

spud69 13th October 2010 11:59 AM

try and use the original sump as a replacement will cost a lot of money. You can use a zetec sump on a cvh - same flange and bolt patter but one like this modified will cost a lot:

TT - i think we posted at the same time but thanks for keeping me right.

Holey moley Andy .... I nearly had to pop a few of my ticker pill's when I saw the price of that modded sump.

See standard alloy sumps at the breakers all the time .... A couple of those a year would certainly pay for the upkeep of my TIG welder ;) :) :)

Do a couple and stick em on ebay. See how it goes.

It certainly is a last resort Ronnie, does look well made and about the cheapest there is about. The cvh sump is fine for both but the metal is very thin and can be badly perished in most cases, as i'm sure most people have found.

Could be a good sideline though Ronnie......AndyH
