Failed

As predicted i failed the IVA yesterday. Some of it me being dull, some of it maybe not so.

Here are some of the things that may help others.

Rear fog lamp, whilst having been purchased as IVA compatible it really wasn't. It was E marked but they must also have a B or F mark on them. Needless to say mine didn't.

I had stamped my VIN no. onto a plate and welded it onto the chassis, this was not good enough for my examiner, he is insisting that it has to be stamped into the chassis. Also the VIN plate that i used didn't have the manufacturers name on it, which is a requirement.

Noise, only 8 decibels over. Oops!!

One quite important one was with the steering shaft connecting the column to the rack. I had used the shaft and uj's from Rally design, as i guess a lot of people will have. Although the bolts are seriously tight, it is still possible to move the shaft in the splines in the uj's.

My indicators are flashing too fast, should be between 60 and 120 flashes per minute. He did actually count them!!

I also missed covering the lock nuts on the upper front ball joints.

Thats about it.

Hope it helps.

That's not a bad fail really!
Should be able to sort all that out reasonably easily and be on the road soon enough!

Yeah that sounds prety good to me all stuff you can sort out. I should hope for such a short list.

Cheers

Bad luck but a small list like that is a testament to your build quality.:)

Sorry you didnt get through first time.:(

Sound like an easy fix though:)

Just clear up the VIN thing. I thought the number can be welded to the chassis but the manufacturer needs to be stamped on the ally plate on the bulkhead? Do we need to stamp the number on the chassis as well as the welded plate?

jason 28th February 2013 08:37 AM

According to the examiner i had, stamping a plate and welding it on was not good enough as it could be ground off. Therefore he wants to see it stamped directly to a chassis rail. Just his interpretation of the rules i guess. The vin plate has to have the vin number and the manufacturers name indelibly marked.

Thanks for all the encouragement.

What;s the manufactures name then? Your name? Sounds like he's a bit of a stickler!

well done Jason, not a terrible fail list.
