Rear upright tube - tolerance
Hi!
I'm trying to source a 5inch, 127mm, tube. I've found a 130mm tube, would that tube work or should I order a 5inch tube from England? Thank you |
I would imagine that the wall thickness would be the most important thing ;)
You'll almost certainly be able to make allowances for the extra 3mm OD when you fabricate the jig :) Just measured a piece of standard UK spec 5" pipe The wall thickness is 4.9 mm & the oD is 127.5 .... As steel sizes are nominal, I would not be surprised to find a piece of 5" pipe with an OD of 130mm nor as little as 125mm :) If the wall thickness is there, I would say, go for it. |
The wall thickness is 3mm, as per the book?
Has this been changed? Thank you |
Hi Pilip
No the book spec for the wall thickness has not been changed :) If you can get some pipe that has a wall thickness of at least 3mm & the OD is 130mm, that should be ideal for the job My 5" pipe just happened to be off-cuts from my suppliers standard stock & has a nominal wall thickness of 5mm .... Could have got 5" with a wall thickness of 3.25mm but would have had to buy a full length  What you have found should be fine & will save the extra cost of obtaining from the UK. |
