I no longer have to drive for my job so.....

Bear with me and keep reading..

Last year I was informed of redundancy to be effective Dec 2011, (it would have been August but we were opening a new site with all new systems so it was extended.. )

At the time of informment I was driving my Brother in laws old Volvo V40, it did the job but was not gr8, Sep 2011 I got a Merc C230 for £200 which was lovely and rode and drove and felt excellent.. But as my redundancy loomed I knew I would be working at a freinds company doing a lot of miles so decided I needed a Diesel and so bought my Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Ghia X.

Fortunately my employer said they would keep me on for "X" days and I decided to work 3 self employed (with my friend) and 2 with my employer.

I racked up 9K between Jan and the end of August in the Mondeo and it's done the job but not been Gr8 for me. It was at this point that my line manager had a convo with me and the organisation which basically resulted in me becoming full time employed again although with diminished Pay and responsibilities....

So I am back now walking to work 4-5 days a week... Can you guess what's coming?

I decided that as I don't need to do Mahooosive miles, or in fact NEED to don more than 5 or so a week that the benefit of a Oil burning car was a small one.

I decided that as I have not had an unsensible car for a few years that it was time to have one.

I decided that it must be a V6 or a V8. And at Least 3L :)

I had a small budget, so it had to be something generally not too popular..

I decided it MUST be RWD.

It Must not be From the Orient...

It had to be under 12 years old , not silver and have Leather.

And actually it had to be a Jaguar

So what have I Bought.......

A 2001, 3.0 V6 s-type Sport in dark blue ..

Drove back from Preston to Carlisle had a hicup with what I thought was a flat battery at the service station, Called the AA but got it going a minuet before he arrived! , why don't service stations sell jump leads???

WOW... WOWOWOWOOWOWO...

It's a few years since I have owned a 3.0 RWD V6 and it was lovely. Tickeover was almost silent.

The ride was lovely, the power delivery slick, the handling gr8, the comfort.

Couple of things to fix but I LOVE it already.

:D :D :D

So let me get this straight you managed to type all that but could not find one minute to take a single pic and upload it ......well I never.

twinturbo 18th November 2012 06:47 PM

By the time I had got home ( after spending 40 Minuets waiting for the AA, I was literally ringing them to say it was not necessary when the van pulled up) , had to take the car to get cat food, then got back and got the XR4x4 of axle stands and bumped it up the drive, put the front back up and shoved the trailer tent as far as it would go and then tucked the mondeo to the far side of the drive and got the Jag on the drive.... It was dark..

And It needs a wash and polish before I take photos..

But this is it

Just a Ford spelt wrong :p

twinturbo 19th November 2012 01:34 PM

I was expecting to see some for style trim, but the only think that is familiar is the knob for the electic adjust on the column and the stereo is almost the same.

20BHP moer thanthe ford version of the 3.0 V6.

I can remeber testing an X type for its first test and thinking why is this "Jag" like a mondeo,4x4.Duratec engine, Jagdeo or Moguar ?

Looked at the key and thought what a kok up.

You must be on some of the forums drugs:eek: That is one of the best looking modern jags for a long long time. most of the modern crop of cars share floorpans and running gear, merc/chrysler, audi/vw/seat/skoda to name but two. Nothing wrong with using a decent chassis/floorpan with tried and tested running gear. Most cars out there are just badge engineered, at least it looks like a jag.

he said x-type ;) -- although why you can get a 4x4 x-type and not a mondeo I don't know.

The s-type is FAB.. Been out for a trip to the supermarket earlier and its just so nice.

I agree they look nice(if thats what lights your candle)but on the negative side they all suffer the same faults, had one in today S type diesel, guess the fault,DPF no suprise.

Bob,dont know how you can compare Jag and VAG,its like comparing a 152 Cessna to an aeroplane !:p

twinturbo 19th November 2012 10:13 PM

no way i would have an oil burning jag....

Yes they suffer the same faults.. which is a good thing ;)

I think I need a 5port heater valve as it only blows cold. but that only bothers swmbo....

reports from her say that the farther in law is jealous, and he has had an 07 A3 sportback from new. time to convert him back from the germans.. ( mind if he went out and bought an XF it would eat into our inheritance......)

Agree wholeheartedly with the second sentence, same very expensive faults.

£300 pound wishbones that squeak,£1,000 plus turbo valves etc, etc, etc need I continue.

I'm late here but know all about X types..

Basically Jaguar (Ford owned at the time) didnt have a car to build at Halewood and the place was for the chop.. Ford came up with a program to save the plant and the jobs.. they made the X type from the then 3 year old Mondeo..

They re-engineered the Genk made Mondeo into the X type so they could save the factory..

So, the floorpan, suspension and trans all Mondeo, the electrics and control systems plus the 4x4 X type has the 4x4 system from the 4x4 Mondeo and if you can remember the swift introduction of the very first diesel Jaguar it was because the engine was already type approved from the Mondeo.

Once ford had stopped production of the Mk2 Mondeo in Genk the X type quickly followed and the plant was taken over to build LandRovers.

If Halewood had not needed a new model the X Type Jag would never have happened, which in my opinion would have been a good thing.

Compared to a similar spec Mondeo the X Type is rubbish..

As a supplier engineer for both cars (cause the parts were the same) Jag stopped engineering changes at level JJ, Ford carried on right to end with level YY.

Now the same parts I supplied to Ford and Jaguar are STILL being made and go on the Aston Martin DB9 (Ford owned Aston at the time as well)

Ford have just announced the closure of the Genk plant in Belgium with the loss of 4300 jobs...

Update on the S Type,has three DPF's and £1500 later it's fixed,recon DPF.

Caveat Emptor.

Two types of Ford : Fix or repair daily or Found on roadside dead.

The Jaguar is now able to sprawl on the drive, the Mondeo has gone.

Love Love Love the jaguar. Even though it needs a coolant control valve fitted and has no heating at present...

So.... Update...

In Jan 2014 she started loosing water and was taken off the road for winter, a Passhat 1.9TD stood in until May when I was able to fit a new radiator. She was then used as a wedding car for the brother in law and enjoyed again.

I was running both the Passat and the Jag , and then thought about the future of our fleet and decided that I should consolidate the Frugal Passat, Luxury Jag, and Space Lugging wifes Galaxy into one car.

August 2014 I bought a BMW E61 530D, that was a dog, clogged DPF caused major issues even before we got home.

The Passat went to a friend, and it took till Early October to Sell the Jag as I was in no rush and the BMW was not trustworthy.

By March 2015 I was already sick of the BMW and got shot.

I replaced it with ....

A Jaguar S-Type 4.0 V8 :) exact same colour as the old one but not a Sport model so it has the chrome. ( I am going to dechrome it )

In love again, but then in October 2015 I think the crank was starved of oil and the engine sized :( (no warning, still doing post mortem!) . She was laid up over winter and then between April and June 2016 the old engine was hauld out and replaced.

1/7/16 She returned to the road and has been enjoyed ever since.

I think I will be an S-Type owner for a very long time!!
