Vehicle indentification number

hi
i just want to make sure (as i am near completion of my chassis) that the VIN you can make up yourself and you register it with the DVLA? is there any restarints on the VIN eg a certain amount of letters and numbers.

Hi Paul,

It's got to be 17 characters and contain both numbers and letters, mine is my name and phone number!

Don't forget to stamp it on an offside chassis rail as well as a rivetted plate.

Cheers

Chris :)

Found this while trolling around the other night http://www.classiccapsule.com/fully-...lates-18-c.asp
thought it might be useful.

Hi
I had a lot of trouble with DVLA with the VIN number as thay wouldn’t give me an age related plate. When they give you a Q plate it needs a VRO number. She made me take the car to a mot station and get them to stamp the new number and sign/ stamp it with mark/ number of the station. Took over a mouth from first time pass at SVA.

vin number

Let me get this right,

You Create your own VIN number (17 characters Upper case), where does this go exactly? and a vin plate goes where?

Get the car MOT'd on this number and then SVA/IVA where they allocate you a reg number??

Whats the average wait for an SVA/IVA test???, really trying to get it in for a SVA before the End of Feb but want it to be right so there's no hold ups.

VIN Numbers

Local VLO used to give VIN numbers to Q reg vehicles and a garage opposite the office stamped them on the vehicle this may still apply, its worth contacting them and asking and may save you a little hassle.
With regard to MOT the vin and reg need not be present and this is stated on MOT cert as "not displayed".

Good Luck

Hi
Can i say well done and what a nice finish particulary your engine bay. I do have one concern. I coud be wrong, but I think you will need some kind of filter or air box for your webbers. as you would need filtered air I would stay away from ram sucks!

Hi Axle.
Thanks for the comments about my build. I like the look of the trumpets only on the Weber’s so have mesh between the carb and the trumpet. It works very nicely.

Frankie
