Heeeeeelp

I realised that the best course of action as regards checking oil pressure would be to plug in the loom before start up to get the warning lights working (thanks for all the helpful replies by the way!)

HOWEVER!:o

My test probe tells me that my EARTH CIRUIT IS LIVE:eek:
I've got the battery connections on and solid earths from battery to chassis ,engine to chassis and the big wire from the battery to the bell housing near the starter solenoid. Most other major plugs are connected. There's a group of earths with shakeproof ring connectors I've attached to the chassis .

I'm baffled( thats a nice way of saying that I don't know what's going on)

Any ideas please:o

My best guess would be that you're either missing an earth, one of them isn't getting a good connection, or there's something you need to plug in to complete the circut properly. I was getting all sorts of weird readings off mine at the ignition and other places all because I didn't have the suppressor connected :o

If you only want to check the oil pressure switch use a bulb and it should go out when the pressure comes up.

As for the earth being live it would melt the wiring if that was so.

If you are using a test light with two wires ie red and black it will light up on earth.

Im using a curcuit tester with an earth clip and a pointed probe which is supposed to show + and -
but the + light shows when I touch the earths

What are you connecting to what and were?

A disconected earth will show a +Voltage if a probe is placed between it and earth.

Does that mean that Im not earthing the circuits correctly?
