Cutting suspension bolts

Ive got some bolts for the shocks where the shanks will pass through both sides of the brackets, and I'll pack out with a thick washer.

This will leave me with about 1" of thread outside the nylock which I'll need to cover with the nut cover.

Will the IVA let me chop the threads down to 2 beyond the edge of the nylock?

They probably wont even look at them if they have a cover on-just check for tightness.

IVA man asked me to remove a couple of nut covers.

Can't see any problem with cutting them down provided you have at least a couple of threads left.

That's what I've done so I hope it's ok. Where the zinc is removed it will rust so it needs a bit of protection.

Mine are 1/2" caphead black bolts, no zinc.

my dampers were second hand with rose joints and were intended for the American market, and have a 12.7mm bore through the joint, hence the imperial fixings.

finding imperial bolts in a high grade was hard enough, zinc plated impossible. Once I've cut them down I'll take them to the platers with a lot of other little bits I need to get coated.
