Sliding Joint Play?

I have just bough an mk indy BEC propshaft from ebay. It looks like it has been properly modified from a sierra donor.
All the universal joints seem fine, 1 UJ does go a bit tight when you move it to its extremes but it doesnt have any play.

The problem is I can feel a very slight ammount of play in the front sliding joint section if I rock back and forth on the splines or side to side, is this ok?
It is also 3 inches too short for my zx9r install and am wondering whether to sell it on or get it modified.
Also has anyone ever tried replacing the staked style sierra jounts?
Cheers Chris
