Sump plate and gaskets
I shortened my oil sump, and then I made sump plate (tu keep oil near shortened oil pick-up).
And the question is... should I use two OEM gaskets between oil sump/plate/engine or just use "rubber-gasket" silicon adhesive ? |
Hi,
Personally, I hate this silicone adhesive. Might be ok for repairing, but for a full sealing, I would definitely use 2 original gaskets. But it is just my humble opinion :) Good luck! |
I've heard that now even manufacturers use RTV silicone instead of a sump gasket. I tried using the CVH 1.8 gasket with my CVH sump, but that didn't work very well, and now my sump is glued with silicone.

VAG silicone/PSA citroen peugeot from dealers is expensive but works well.

Würth also make high-temp, oil resistant silicone. Oil pans are listed on the list of intended applications.

I had to change the main bearings in my puma 1.7 vct, and ford state that its a paste (silicon) gasket. The mechanic at ford said that the best one on the market was the one from Nissan dealers. I have used this many times, and it has been absolutely brilliant, never an issue. Quick warning, don't get any on your clothes, because it doesn't come out, took my top off after using it, chucked it into washing basket on wife's new jeans, to say that she was a little grumpy when she had to throw them out was a little left of the truth.:D
